HOW DOES THIS SOUND? ITACHI AND SASUKE KILL KABUTOMARU AND HAVE THEIR LITTLE CHAT. ITACHI TELLS SASUKE THAT THE STORY ABOUT THE LEAF HAVING HIM ATTACK HIS CLAN IS UNTRUE AND THAT HE JOINED MADARA FOR THE SAME REASONS THAT SASUKE JOINED OROCHIMARU, BUT IN THE END EITHER HAD A CHANGE OF HEART BECAUSE HE DID NOT WANT TO KILL SASUKE OR THE PLAN CHANGED BECAUSE OF ITACH'S SICKNESS AND SASUKE WILL TAKE ITACHI'S PLACE IN THIS PARTNERSHIP.
OR
WHEN SASUKE DOES MAKE IT TO THE LEAF TO DESTROY IT HE SOMEHOW FINDS THAT WHAT MADARA TOLD HIM ABOUT THE LEAF MAKING ITACHI KILL HIS CLAN IS A LIE.
OR
IT TURNS OUT THAT MADARA DID A CRAZY TSUKUYOMI TO ITACHI MAKING HIM THINK THAT THE LEAF WANTED THIS MISSION.
ALL OF THAT ASIDE ITACHI SAYS THAT MADARA HELPED HIM IN THIS MISSION THAT WAS BROUGHT DOWN BY THE LEAF. ASSUMING THE LEAF DID APPOINT THIS MISSION THEY SHOULD HAVE KNOW HE COULD NOT DO IT HIMSELF. HOW DO THEY THINK HE ACCOMPLISHED THIS ALONE AND DID THEY KNOW MADARA WOULD HELP, THEREFORE KNOWING OF HIS SUPPOSED EXISTENCE.

I just don't see any threat posed to the village by the uchiha. As I said in my previous post a whole village will not be scared of a clan that can be destroyed by one man. unless they had already planned that madara was going to help, in which case the village was well aware of madara's existence.

Well, they knew how strong the Uchihas are and that they were planing to attack the Village and maybe that's why they wanted someone from their clan bcs that would surpsrise them (bcs an Uchiha attacked them)and they couldn't defend theirselves bcs they wouldn't understand a thing, it was the easiest way, Itachi could easily "sneak in" and kill them bcs he knew the clan and also their thoughts. But your theory is good bcs of the appereance of Madara (he was supposed to be dead), besides that I don't see Itachi as a bad guy or something like that.

Supposedly the Uchiha where planning a coup. The
element of surprise is a wonderful thing, Itachi
couldnt have killed them all without it. Also, we
dont know the details of his plan. He most
certainly had a huge advantage that he utilized.
The Uchiha where definitely a powerful clan, after
all they where the leafs police force. I really
dont believe all of the elders knew about Madara.
Possibly Danzou but the rest where unknowing im
sure. They would never allow Madara in willingly.
Also, Sasuke was in pain because of all of the
fighting he had just done, Raikage, Danzou and now
Kakashi and Naruto. His chakra was dangerously low
and he took a lot of hits. Itachi was losing his
light just as Sasuke was but there was another
illness that was making him weak. Itachi didnt let
Sasuke win because he felt like he owed it to him
but rather because it was the plan all along for
him to become strong then Sasuke would stop. He
never thought Sasuke would hold such contempt for
the Leaf, a village that Itachi loved and
sacrificed everything for.

What would Itachi know about Sasuke getting the
Rinnegan? The only Uchiha to attain the Rinnegan
was Madara and nobody knew about that to our
knowledge. Unless Tobi told him, but Tobi isnt the
type to offer up information that would put Itachi
in an advantage. Unless they show us how Itachi
would know about the Rinnegan and how to get the
Firsts cells into Sasuke then I would have to say
thats not a likely plan for Itachi.

they werent afraid the uchia where going to kill
everyone and take the village. they where afraid
of what would happen after the civil war, they
would be weaken, and another village could attack
in there weaken state.
