they were not trying to stop him from killing his
brother, necessarily. they were trying to stop him
from joining forces with the evil orochimaru. they
knew or at least had an idea of what oroc was
doing and knew that he was going to try to use
sasuke. Simply put, he is evil and friends
don't let friends join evil.

Apparently once you defect from the village
you're considered a traitor especially if
you join forces with an S-Ranked wanted missing
nin, he should have done like Jiraia and say he
was gonna do research

jiraiya was still a rogue they where looking for
him. they just took him back because he wasnt
evil.

Jiraiya was no rogue..sir or mam LOL.. He was a
sanin at that level you could do what you want.
but he was never Rogue.. and he certainly never
betrayed the village..
