Well, obviously Obito did have to potential to
turn pretty kick-ass. I suspect the reason Madara
chose Obito in particular is because he saw
Obito's fight with kakashi when he was
refusing to save Rin. Remember what Obito said to
Kakashi before he left?
"You and
I always were like water and oil"
Recall that this water and oil saying has been
used to describe another event by Tobi. When he
was re-capping the what happened at the foundation
of Konoha to Sasuke.
"...but the
Uchihas and Senju always were like water and
oil"
I think this plays a very
critical role in the plot, as it has been used on
various occasions. I would guess the reason Madara
wanted the Senju DNA is because he wanted to mix
it with the Uchiha DNA, and thus we see the black
and white Zetsu; not mixed together but two
seperate pieces, like water and oil. This
understanding is what I think Madara wanted in the
disciple that would carry forward his will, and
thus Obito is chosen.
