how would madara know what his friends look like?
and being close shouldnt have anything to do with
it. and they have been close many of times after
that. and the reason kakashi couldnt see what
obito was doing is simple its obitos eye

he hadnt awakend MS et. his sharingan only needs
to be activated and 4 sum eason he can use it w/o
activating his mS

This would mean that every time Kakashi used the rinnegan, Obito would be spying on him. This would bring up a lot of issues in the story.

how would that bring up issues in the story? well
to be frank we dont know if he needs ms or not we
never see his eye in a fight but he did have ms
while fighting kakashi
