I think the jinchurikis had to have been revived with edo tensai for 2 reasons.
1.If it was through the rinnegan jutsu that would mean that he had gone and retrieved the complete bodies of the old guard of jinchuriki which should have been way too far decayed to really be useful (at least I would think so).
2.If he had revived them through pain's jutsu then they would not have had any of their own unique abilities, they would only be what the 6 paths of pain were - hence making the fact that they were who they were completely pointless.
Number 2 is also the reason I think they must still have their tailed beasts. What's the point of reviving jinchurikis if they aren't still jinchurikis through this jutsu? It's kind of like restoring a classic car without putting an engine in it.

Your #1 theory is wrong. How come Madara still has sharingan's from when he attack the Uchiha Clan? Don't confuse Madara with any other ninja out there, he knows how to preserve things. By all accounts, Madara should be dead also.

Well the 3 tails didn't have a jinchuriki, the 8 and 9 tails still have their bijuus, and the 1 tail jinchuriki is still alive.

This means the akatsuki only has 5 corpses of jinchurikis that they extracted the bijuus from.

So like I said they would have had to go dig up the old guard corpses of jinchurikis to fill up the 6 paths, and the corpses are in way too good a condition for that.

All that being said, I now see that the 6 paths could have been jinchurikis simply because they are not good enough to bother summoning solo with edo tensai now that their beasts are gone.


I'm not so sure about Madara, the guy claims to have created akatsuki, yet is the newest member besides deidara (even though he called deidara senpai, weird). He claims collecting the tailed beasts was his plan, yet he had to have joined right around when they started being collected.

Each Jinchuriki has their own set of abilities separate from their biju's for instance resummoning Naruto solo with edo tensai is more than enough (endless shadowclones & rasengans) So just wait an see what they can do Bijuless. My money is on Yugito Nii being the best preformer.

@Almightywood Madara also said he was not responsible for the attack on Konoha and that it was a natural occurrence, if he created akatsuki why join as an underling?

@xaioque When Pain killed Jiraiya he said Madara ordered me to get the nine tails.

So Madara was definitely pulling the strings from the background before the elimination of Pain. The guy lied to Sasuke about being behind the 9 tails attack, but that's the only certain lie he's told that I know of (other than things possibly said as Tobi, but I don't count that since he was undercover).

I suppose it's possible that he was merely trying to keep his existence hidden from.. well.. the ninja world.

Still I wonder about him. He's shifty enough that I now kind of wonder if it is Madara. With the entire clan slaughtered it would be easy to miss a body or misname a body.
Shisui seemed like a good candidate since we had only ever seen one of "Madara's" eyes, but now that Shisui's second eye has surfaced inside Naruto, he's not that good a candidate. (plus he seemed a little young to have released the 9 tails 16+ years ago)
The main thing I question is the rest of the story he told Sasuke. If Madara wanted to restore the Uchiha clan, why would he help with a Senju plot (more or less)? I could see wanting revenge all around, but the order is backwards.

@Almightywood you're absolutely right that story is a huge contradiction yet he may have seen the Uchiha's as traitors and an opportunity for revenge just fell in his lap.

Madara also lied to Naruto about Sasuke choosing to go against konoha on his own. (that being said Naruto should become the biggest badass around and Sasuke will stick to him like glue) He also lied about giving the Rinnengan to Nagato who already had it awaken as a kid.

OK POSSIBLE AKATSUKI LEADER SCENARIO: Pain being the leader and creator of Akatsuki destroyed all his enemies and the groups main function changed when the Mizukage (Madara) hearing of Handzo's death pays Amegakure a visit and informs it's new leader (Pain) about a better way to get world peace. Leadership changes to the most knowledgeable on the subject of Biju's and Jinchuriji's (Madara) when he offers to teach its current leader (Pain) Dōjutsu control.

Madara is the official leader and left Pain in Charge while he did underground work (looking for Uchiha eyes & Plotting to kill Danzo) and maintained a low key, not drawing attention to himself and having the Great Nations fired up to hunt him down.
