I know u all would say yes and point me to jiraiya casting genjutsu on Nagato but let me explain further. There is a difference btn Jiraiya's genjutsu which is auditory and itachi's tsukuyomi which is ocular. We know that there are 3 great dojutsus(sharigan, byakugan and rinnegan) with the rinnegan being said to be the most powerful. It is so rare and powerful that pple like kakashi thought it was a myth. To me it's like one of the 'holy grails' of the shinobi world. We are now being informed that the rinnegan is an advanced form of the EMS so its like this sharigan< MS < EMS < rinnegan. So the ? is how can tsukuyomi which is an MS ability have an effect on the rinnegan which is two levels above it? It would be like a basic sharigan casting a genjutsu on an EMS. I hope u get my point.
I personally dont think that a sharingan user can
really place someone with a rinnegan under a
genjutsu... Peopl who are using jiraiyas fight as
an example could be overlooking the fact that
maybe pain WANTED to be trapped in the jutsu.
Remember, jiraiya only trapped 3 paths in the
jutsu and got his arm cut off straight
afterwards... My guess is that pain wanted
jiraiya to drop his guard, making him think that
he won the fight... Pain himself, at the end of
the fight, said that he would have had a tough
time winning if he didnt keep his secret
God Pein killed Fukasaku in
order to prevent them(Fukasaku and his wife) from
using their Genjutsu. If Rinnegan is really immune
to Genjutsu then he shouldn't have bothered
by the toads Genjutsu. What Pain meant when
he said he would have a tough time winning if he
didn't keep his secret is simply because of
his immobility. Jiraiya could defeated him if
Jiraiya aimed for Nagato. Thus the last message of
Jiraiya, "The Real One is not There".
