Ignorance is bliss. Stop spamming.
Pokemon is simply a fad that has been going on way too long. Their continuing additions to the number of pokemon is stupid. They add ten pokemon, they create another two games. The storyline rarely changes, and it is so vague. "Oh look, Team Rocket and some guy that threatens to kill or capture all of the world's pokemon for his pleasure...time to stop them." Seriously, that's all there is to it, with the addition of fighting the Elite Four that are overrated like crazy. Good job. I now think of you as being seven years old.

I like the Pokemon games.
The show is completely ridiculous and should have been stopped a long time ago.
But the games have always been the best out of the Pokemon series.
I can't wait for Pearl and Diamond except for the fact that they are for the DS.
Which means there is yet another console that I will want to purchase with money I don't like spending. (I'm a cheap guy)

all of the Pokemon games are good. but all of the advertising (anime, card game, etc...) just killed it

Some of the Pokemon Gameboy games are good, just like some of the Yu-Gi-Oh ones. Yet the thing about the cards is that they pull the money outta your pocket. So just get the Gameboy games which won't get you broke and are just as fun! =D

Pokemon has gotten way overdone in my opinion. Make a new story or something at least! The games are fun, but they make too many. Leaf green and Emerald? They're pretty much the same thing from what I can see.

Pokemon is simply a fad that has been going on way too long. Their continuing additions to the number of pokemon is stupid. They add ten pokemon, Maybe try 130.they create another two games. Well.. 4 XP..
Don't every play the game for this. This is the small part of the game. I think people who don't know much shouldn't comment to this extent. The rby generation sucked, but I guess it did sucker the people into trying out the newer ones. Gsc tried to make you play longer with the need to capture more, and the running-around legendary trio. Crystal even implemented the battle tower, which rocks until you get bored, for that is where the pokemon are a challenge sometimes.. they're level 100 after all.
Ruby Sapphire was where the real fun started. They revamped the training formulas, and I think it rocks over the simple old one. For the best part, the quality of graphics was much better since it is a gba game. Battle tower was still there, lack of new world to visit was disappointing though. It got bored fast after you finished the elite 4.
Emerald, they started to get the idea that people want more goals, harder to complete but not hopelessly long either. They integrated the battle frontier, with so many different things to do there. Battle Dome, Tower, Pike, all with different styles, different goals, different pokemon, and a leader that would challenge you after certain consecutive wins. Pokemon breeding was even more popular now, since you could pass on individual values easier, and natures too. Certain pokemon with abilities (these were implemented in ruby/sapphire) could affect how things happened on the field. Aside from stench and illuminate, which bring down and raise encounters from the wild respectively, there are things like compoundeyes, which raises the chance of the wild one having a hold item, and swarm, which raises the chance of hearing wild cries in the wild. These were mostly novelty though.
Of course, the game can never offer enough. With all these, you have to conceive strategies, you have to train particular pokemon in particular stats, and you have to link up to do battle. Yes, competitive battling is really what tests the player. The game does not come close to having good enough AI. If you battle a seriously experienced player, you can see the amount of skill. You could get owned by prediction, status, even abilities such as arena trap which prevent you from escaping the battle. Hold items like leftovers, choice band and berries are very crucial depending on what kind of pokemon it is. A team should be balanced, with different types (elements) and different roles. A tanker pokemon, one which can take hits and hit back. A sweeper, one that can hit hard. A wall, one that can take hits and wear them down with status moves or the like. A special sweeper, one that uses special non-physical moves to hit hard. Annoyers, those that rely solely on status moves like toxic and confuse ray. Secondary roles, healbeller, rids the team of status effects. Spiker, rapid spinner, spikes the opponent's area to give them damage with a switch, and to spin away spikes in your area. The list goes on.
When one is bored of using boring old standards, train a team of under-used pokemon! Do the same. If you are truly experienced, then, beat your friends even. Watch their faces! In training, close to 65 points in a stat can be altered by what you do. If you train right, you're at an advantage.
Yes, pokemon is far far more than the game itself. I agree though that the advertising and anime killed it. The mascot too... should have gotten something big and scary. And why did they target this at little kids who probably wouldn't be able to understand the game mechanics? Beats me.

I liked the pokemon games a lot, but I stopped after Crystal because it was mostly the same old stuff. However, you make it sound like the games have gotten better. I might try it again.
