I thik we should be able to clone things... wut about u guys.. debate in session!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I thik we should be able to clone things.
Me too, we clone lots of things now.
The controversy comes when you want to clone humans.
I don't agree with that, and animal cloning. It is unethical to create a human just for the sake of science.
Bleh, I could go on for hours, with both for and against points. :p

He's right^, we do clone a lot things already. But anywho, I think it depends on what we clone, if its a kidney or a heart then I'm all for it. But cloning people is just wrong.

Cloning is the same as twins. so just ask yourself, do you really want more twins in the world?
Definitely... completely agree with that, I mean how's it like to know that there is a clone of you who is still a little embryo and will become like you when he/she grows up? Probably will become disfigured and mental... so I am completely against cloning on humans... no problem with plants or organs/tissues.

What's the point of that? That just sounds cruel! @ above 2 posts!
i don't like the idea of cloning, i mean creating life by artificial ways...umm just doesn't sound ok. But if cloning things will help science or medicine... i think its ok...
i guess i'm still not so sure about the idea.

I'm sure cloning is a painful expirience. It's like playing God and no one can truly do that.

i thought someone would say that... LILY!
so if they say ur mom has 1 hour to live we can clone her for free what would u do?
i sure as hell would say clone her ass!!!!!!!!! because truly i dont want to see her dead but i do but if i clone her... MWahahahAhhahaahaha

cloning could be good- organ cloning, not human cloning. it could help save lives.

i think they should try to clone a human and see what happens

Whoa... Yeesh.
Cloning is the same as twins. so just ask yourself, do you really want more twins in the world?
Sorta... Except one twin would be 50 years old while the other is in diapers. :p
Definitely... completely agree with that, I mean how's it like to know that there is a clone of you who is still a little embryo and will become like you when he/she grows up? Probably will become disfigured and mental... so I am completely against cloning on humans... no problem with plants or organs/tissues.
No... See, just like twins, they are not the same person. If you raise genetic twins in two different enviornments, they will be two completely different people (for the most part). One could grow up to be the pope and the other a terrorist. It is the exact same with clones. A clone is not the same person a normal guy is.
yes i heard they also cloned mice and it dies within 24 hours
...Not the last I heard. They live quite fine. There was a TIME Magazine article last year or so on a cloned cat that they made. It's still fine today and is completely normal.
I would expect that it would be far easier to clone a mouse than a cat... Because as they discovered, the more complex an organism, the harder it is to clone it without any problems.
I'm sure cloning is a painful expirience. It's like playing God and no one can truly do that.
...How? Cloning is taking an egg cell and taking out all of the genetic info in it. Then, the genetic info of a cell from your body would be put inside it. From there, it is implanted in a host mother and then, eventually, the organism is born. The only painful part about it is the childbirth.
And it isn't really playing God when you think about it. That would be creation. This is merely extentionism, for it is making a genetic duplicate of yourself. God didn't extend, God created. Hell, having sex is more playing God than cloning.
so if they say ur mom has 1 hour to live we can clone her for free what would u do?
This isn't the cloning you see in the sci-fi movies. You do not go into a machine or something and then step out and there is another one of you. This is getting an exact duplicate of yourself again... But the duplicate STILL has to start out as a child and it probably will NOT be the same person.

yeah, depend what you are cloning..Human..NO.
Just can't imaging another NK standing beside me, and my mum can figure out which one is me....cry....

of course we can clone thins...like sheep they take a cell out of one sheep and by usin mitosis it creates more cells well in a petri=dish wit chemicals and then when the thin becums an embryo it is put in another female sheep which gives birth to it and it will grow up to be exactly the same sheep....this is clonin too

You do not UNDERSTAND cloning. At all. See my previous posts explaining. There is no such thing as cloning in a way that you will be able to stand next to a mirror version of yourself in something like a year or two. You can NEVER do that, because it would require some form of time alteration. People are not just molded. Biology is extremely complext and it is impossible to LITERALLY clone a person.
It IS possible, however, to clone a person's DNA. That means a baby will be born with your EXACT DNA, no different than a twin brother/sister, except they will be many years younger than you. Also, they will grow up differently from you (no matter how you try) and will not be you. They will be someone completely and utterly different.
From our understanding, a "soul" would be something like our personality and emotions and memories. We cannot clone that. ...So I don't see how it is "playing God" or "messing with ethics."

I remember i read a fiction long time ago..it is about cloning. One of the organisation which claimed to be a secret group has the technology or knowledge of cloning. (That is way b4 the actual cloning stuff first appear on this real world). However the clones they made are without thinking...they grow up fast and within months and they grow to your age. But mentally retarded, it is like baby.
What they do is.. use up their internal organ for transplantation purposes to the real. Of course this is only a story, but i think this can be true one day...the scientist for sure can make the clone baby grow fast (I bet they will know how in the future).
Well, in medical point of view, this should be a brilliant step to save people especially the rich or the so-called VVIP, the so called presidents, genius,.....whatever.
But do you think by cloning yourself and kill the clone just to save your life is kinda sick. Well, different people may have diferent opinions. To me...just no.

Actually, I don't know what you heard, but I heard both the cat, and the lamb, died 2 years later, with every possible disease and body issues...
also, I do not understand why cloning is so necessary in this modern day world...I think it is sad...if you only want to clone someone just because...well...you want to regain someone or something you've lost...it's scary >.< to replace...them like that...and like said before, they aren't the same personality wise, just image wise...
Now stem-cell replacement is an entirely new thing, that I totally agree with...

it's human nature that we only take the good things and throw away the bad. i personally disagree with clonning, but in 50-70 years later, there maybe laws about clonning and how to use it. clonning can be good and bad, it's us who decide how to use it.

You are talking about genetical manipulation I think...this is about cloning!
Cloning really does not harm anyone and technically they are two people...even though it might get knid of confusing to tell people apart >.<
I think its fine so long as its regulated and highly documented for crime reasons mainly!

They've cloned frogs and sheeps and stuff, but i don't think there ready to clone people. that would be crazy if they did. and it mutated.....and destroyed a city......that would be crazy. i'm crazy. your crazy. i like crazy. hehe....crazy....

with every possible disease and body issues... That isn't really possible. Also dolly died of old age (at a younger age b/c the telomer section of the dna came from a older donar animal and was already shortened.)
ok, we wer are going to talk about cloning humans you can't assume that all these problems are going to arrise, no one is going to do it until the bugs are worked out. Personally I don't really see a problem in cloning a human, although I don't see why anyone would really want to do it because the clone would not be the same. My guess is that it will happen a few times then people will stop doing it.

CLONING IS STRAIGHT OUT WRONG WE CAN CREATE LIFE WITHOUT IT I DON'T WANT TO BE CLONED AND NO ONE SHOULD BE,THE PERSON WOULD HAVE NO MEMORIES OR ANYTHING. Can you imagine trying to remember sometthing important but there's nothing there? I would be so painful. It shouldn't be sone to people.I don't wanna deal with 2 horus'

I don't think you fully understand cloning. yes the person wouldn't the donors memories, but it's not like they would be a fully grown human who can talk and stuff. They would be an infant.
If someone was cloned they would be like a twin, only an infant instead of the same age. There have been like 20 people who have said this, but some of you insist on ignoreing this and using a flawed arguement against cloning. I can accept someone being against cloning, but at least don't give a flawed reason.

yes, of course since the moment that we would be able to clone a human, organ transplants would be easier to administer/execute ; however, it should be regulated (against evil purposes)
toma24135
03-19-2005, 12:26 AM
Well the good news is that it being regulated is a givven. Although if you are refering to making a clone to use as spare organs, I don't think that will happen b/c there are other scientists that are developing ways of growing just the organ in question, and their methods would be cheaper and faster.

that's why it still in research stage!! first and foremost you don't have to produce a whole organism in order to clone.. remember cloning is the method of replicating one's whole DNA... all somatic cells (all cells except the reproductive cells) have the same amount of DNA (46 chromosomes for us humans)... so when you replicate DNA in vitro (in a test tube) or in a cell, it's cloning... why is there a need to use cloning to produce spare organs? simple. when you transplant an organ into a human it is important that the organ to be transplanted would not inflict antibody reactions to the receiving human or else the transplant would be detrimental to the receiving human... if the organ to be transplanted has the same genetic makeup with that of the receiving human ... which could be done through cloning... disasters that may come up due to the aforementioned antibiotic reaction/s would be averted...
