View Full Version : The PC vs The Mac

I'm rather biased against Mac's because I only use Mac's at school. And they are the shitty kind that are slow and crash frequently. I just looked it up on google, and Mac's are apparently reliable. Must be a different type than what I commonly see and use. Oh well, as far as my knowledge goes, you can't customize a Mac the same way you can customize a PC.
EDIT: Lol, move this to the Computers section plz :P

i love MAC!! i'm using the G4! i love it! PC gives me probs... MAC is fantastic! but some games cant play on MAC thats the downside...
the macs at school are an exception...they just suck...... other apple computers are really nice inside and out. I use pc at home, I'm just more used to it....so I vote PC...unfairly.

Mac.
Well, I have OSX, a great version, never crashed.
The PC that we have is my graphics computer. It is slow as hell. (And needs an antivirus system)
It crashed, so I am graphic-less for a while.

Most macs that are used in schools have OS 9 on them. And yes, OS9 sucks. However, an OS X 10.4 or higher is sleek and well thought out.

all computers in school suck these days. especially their crappy wireless internet xD
I dont know how macs usually run, but yeh i heard they're quite reliable.

It depends what you want to do. Any kind of picture or video editing should be done on a Mac. Any type of business work or gaming should be done on a PC.
I also like how PCs are completely customizable and constantly upgradeable. Macs aren't.

I sort of feel that Macs are like consoles. For a set price, you get a set machine, so there's no jealousy of other Mac users, you get a set standard of hardware for a set standard of software, and little risk of crashing.
I only prefer PCs because I can use them.

Personally I've stripped a few macs and found them to be near identical to PCs just by looking at the cicuitry. Macs are good, but the only thing that I want from them is that new sexy Macbook :P

pc hardware has always been known to be alot more hardcore....thats why mac went to intel to get their new processors....and mac used to have like NO support but now they strive in a marketing ploy to do things like bootcamp and allow full support between pc/mac....which is good....but i like how microsoft is answering by saying....we dont need to do that to get customers....

That is why they had to switch.
Microsux doesn't need that to get customers because they dont make computers. They make the software and maybe the XBOX Hardware.

Its the OS that needs to be altered to allow a pc to run Mac not the hardware...at least now, since mac stuff works on intel....thats why there are ways for people with PC's to install Mac OS X on their comp....
And i kinda agree with microsoft stealing stuff...lol....
but stop being so indie newb =D and saying i'm so cool w/ my mac and just look at the facts..... its a matter of opinion.... for each person mac or pc is better....there cant be a declared winner

Otherwise change it to "newb" (according to Shino's deffinition of flamming.
Next. I don't own or use macs right now. I have atleast 5 pcs running at any given time. On top of that matter get YOUR facts right. You stated that Apple was using the Intel fad as a new marketing ploy WRONG. IBM stopped making chips for Apple thus they switch out of neccesity. Bootcamp is a market ploy becuase they need more business and the fact that they released a copy of their OS that DOES work on intel chipsets even though its not labled for PC. It only makes sense to have a counter.
Most importantly don't fucking call me a indie noob. I've been a experienced nerd since 1993 which is before any of you got outta of diapers as well as worked as implementor/"solution designer"/technician to PC and Mac networks and systems for the last 5 years in my former school district and now Texas A&M University Energy System Lab.
Im also A+, N+, Security+, and almost MCSE certified.

i was refering to bootcamp as a marketing ploy....not the switch to intel....just as you stated....i did get my facts wrong with parts of the intel switch....but ibm didnt just stop making chips for them....they were asking for more moeny and not really producing...with many projects [g5 laptop] behind schedule or taking to long so apple kinda dropped them by not wanting to pay the prices but the break up can be played on both sides since apple did things at fault too...but do you really think the switch wasnt planned just a little bit?....it fell into place surprisingly smooth and now that mac has both support they can get more money
also sorry for the noob remark it was aimed at those of the current mac fad that believe mac is god on earth....
Freshgrease
06-22-2006, 12:16 AM
Ah ok. I thought you were aiming that at me. Then its "ok" i guess. Not sure. Anyway. I think that it is a good switch anyway because now they can explore more with OS and processor technology.
Whats funny is that a chip designer from IBM came into my Comp engineering class and did a case study. When we got to the Power PC Chip he laghued then he moaned something dicrepid. It was funny since in college they can cuss if they want to.
OH....I dont believe Mac is god on earth. I just like it as a good platform where I can develop and do multimedia if I want, but I use PC mostly and build my own.

The thing is that it is not specifically the Mac itself that makes it godly at multimedia work. It's the software to go with it. If they made FinalCut Pro for a PC, you can bet your ass that the best thing to use would be a PC for editing videos.
Additionally... You know how Macs always brag that they cannot get any viruses? Well that's not true any longer. (Especially if you install Windows on it. But even if you don't, there are a few Mac malware programs now.) Here's a link (http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/0,2000061744,39164062,00.htm) about one of the more neat ones.

Okay, I am saying this once more.
YOU CAN BUY A FUCKING TWO CLICK MOUSE.
At DA:
The same can be said about windows. If they made all the games for mac, yada yada yada.
It was not they they could not get viruses, just that there were none. (And actually, there was) There are just more numerous now that they have the intel chip.

I used microsoft mice on some macs that have two click buttons. The right click didn't function on the mouse though, only the left click worked. Maybe because the Mac was an OS 9? Hmm.
Corbenk
06-22-2006, 04:48 PM
? They've always worked for me... Even on OS9... Maybe the mouse was a piece fo shit XD.. As we speak I am using a ps2 Microsoft mouse and it is working.
I do not hate my mac, but I wish I had an intel or g5... No, I wish I had... AN INTEL G5!!!!!!
Gama, I will chill when people like stop being fucking karens and research something before making a claim. It makes you people look stupid. It's be if I said

But there's a REASON why they make all the games for PCs. It's called a registry.
The Intel chips do not make a Mac capable of getting a virus. The main thing that spyware and viruses attach to is the registry and a few other little directories that are only on PCs and not Macs. Oh wait, should I make this post in bright red because you didn't know this fact?
Corbenk
06-22-2006, 05:48 PM
It would help yes.
The reason I have posted it in bright red is because I have posted that like 19 times, and every time a mac vs PC topic is made, the same people always post they hate it because you can not right click.

Erm, double post? Yesh, do explain.
Anyways, the MAC needs more USB port spots..
from my point of view,
Macs are harder to use =x not use that that mouse at all...i keep right clicking while i really had to click that one big center click. also the OS system too was kinda complicated for me first time, wasnt even sure if i actually closed or just mimizied a window.
bleh PCs are just easier to use even and yeah i'll just stick to that

2 or three on the computer, two on the keyboards usually. (talking about the USB ports.)
DarkAztek

If you really want extra USB ports so badly, you can always just buy a cheap-o extension. They cost about $15 or so and you get at least an extra 4 ports.
