thank you guys, i have to do better neat versions, cause all these are character designs first.... i have at least 11 at the moment i need to work out looks to go with the details... so i have alot to do.. these early sketches, are the brainstorm basically... they will look a lil different probably.

hehehe, thank you..... and you have no idea.... in short, he is an angel with a past, and this pic is where the military have captured him... but does he look worried? if not, thats never a good thing. his whole story is very biblical and very detailed, and good.

not just yet... he is the only one i have done, cause i used to draw him when i was younger (you know... with the stupid round eyes and dots for pupils like other catoons, not manga) and he is called the angry angel, cause he was like my other half, since i based him on me with twice the hair length and slightly darker. he goes by the name "angry angel" and the group he is with (that eventually try to help him bust out, but find out he already has when they see him still bound, but a dead guard infront of him, and he just rips it open with ease) is a team of 5 different people who are called the A.A.A.A (the AngryAngelAssinationAssosiation) and basically to sum it up, it is like "league of extraordinary gentlemen" but without the stupidness and sappy characters, and they arent good or bad.. but mostly bad.

that bound character likes fights and chaos, and is the "wrath" angel of the ones who were cast out of heaven (satan was envy, since he envied gods love for man, and lucifer is pride, cause he was too proud to serve under god, and wanted to rule over all). it was some time after those two though, and god did something to him, that he wanted revenge for, so he talked satan and lucifer into attacking, letting them into secrets and made a deal with them... then before they attacked, he told god about it, so he came off as a hero. god found out afterwards and sentenced him to death, when he fled to earth. and through out history, he has enjoyed fights, and started wars, like the romans rise and fall, and the rise and fall of hitler, by telling them how they could take over... only to tell the other side how to defeat them.

Give me some of the charcters details and ill try doing sketches of them, then u can take them and imropvethem and make them better.

1- "the russian" he is 8'6'' and was an ex freak-show attraction. physically nothing wrong with him, he is just huge. was part of a military experiment for a super soldier, and still has the buzz-cut hair style. very muscular but he wears a big over coat, and a wide brimed hat. he is very timid, and gentle, very harmonious.
2- "the harlot" she is a sexy woman, who soley uses her sex appeal to get her way, and to trick people into things. very curvey with long black hair down to her waist. usually wears tight black dresses and is very stylish.
3- "the machine" a female android (a female who had bionic things to replace some parts, and was a toy for the nerd who modified her. the angry angel rescued her, and she is now his lover. she is petite but extremely stong. blonde hair, green eyes, and is quite cute.
4- "the animal" another female who is very slender but muscular. she is from another universe and was requested to capture and kill the angry angel, so her people could find out these abserd speaking of a supreme being called god. she is covered head to toe in cheetah spots and has a tail. due to this, she, like the russian, wears a long cloak. and wears her tail like a belt.
5- "the driver" so called, cause he doesnt actually do anything, but he collects info, directs them, give them new technologies and weapons. he looks like a male star, kinda brad pitt physice.

sadly they arn't original, I drew them from looking at the series, i don't know if the extra .5 is earned, but thx for the compliment

I am still havving some troubles with size ratios and stuff, although it is only the 11th and 12th drawing that I have ever done of anime (and everything i did before that sucks alot)

hehehe, it did cause i explained to someone else i wanted the character to be kinda british based, personality and look wise, but not actually be british by speaking different if you know what i mean. just so that she had brit-influence. And originally, i wanted to make her a mod (for those who dont know, in the 70s/80s there were like two gangs; the mods, and the rockers. the mods were cool, laid back kind of people who wore suits, and the rockers.. .well you can guess what they were like.) and have her be more brit like that... but as soon as i said the idea to someone, they said "oh god, you are just trying to rip off the "MadMod" character from teen titans (cause they didnt know about mods) so since i doubt everyone knows about them, i decided to make her british-punk instead. XD

and WOW i love the top pic!!! they look very cool, my fav being tsunaka XD 10/10... the one underneath is also awesome 9.8/10

I think they are both pretty good, I give the 2nd one a 9 and the first one a 8 (you need to color it I think)

looks nice, but i think you are using a burn tool feature a little too much (if im wrong, my mistake) the strokes are a little too free hand and not corrected to blend well. nice pic though, and i'd give it a 9/10, maybe 9.5/10

i used linear dodge:D ....it my second picture i've ever colord with photoshop.=/

hehe, thought so... it was one of the two... the best idea is not rely on those tools for shading... just select a darker tone of the skin colour, and set the opacity on about 23. that way, you can build up the shadow the closer to the edge by going over that bit repeatedly... you get a fading effect, which is good. then use the smudge tool so you dont have brush parts left (ie, the armpit)

thank you very much D0G... its a technique i've developed to suit my own style... its a mix of everything... i draw our a stick man, to get the basic pose how i want it, using balls for the joints like the shoulers, knees, ankles, and elbows. after that i only draw a barrel shape for the chest, and the rest i do freehand. things like the hands, i look at my own one, get an outline shape, then add the detail (you can see something like that on the left hand where i didnt rub it out)

but otherwise it is mostly freehand... i usually do alot of erasing, and i rarely stick to the stick figure that i started with...

Wow thats a good technique......................need to try it........thanks..................my drawings are all freehand never done one with the stickman thing..............................

if you are comfortable with the idea straight away, then you dont need the stick figure... its just i use it, to get a rough look of the pose, and that way proportions come easier too. you can see if there is too much space between joints and stuff before you go into detail. i never got on with that whole "egg and sausage" thing, cause a body isnt built like that. so i just model the stick man in light pencil, and not flech it out, but just freehand the body with all the clothes on straight away.

i use the stick man, cause when i go completely free hand, i usually have bits too long, especially the neck.

Not a naruto character, but I think I did a pretty good job on this one.

I also did one in color w/ photoshop, although I don't think it came out as good as the pencil one.

nice work... i think the colouring is quite nice, and is going in the right direction 8.5/10 for that, but the pencil one 8.5-9/10.

tips for colouring... theres only one thing i can say... patients... its often wanting to get a pic coloured fast and easy that is its downfall. i can sometimes spend hours doing a pic, sometimes even leaving it for a day, then coming back, cause doing that, you forget what it looks like, but you have that rough image in your mind. then when you see it, if you think "hmm, no what i thought i remembered" you will notice things, like the shading isnt the right tone, or the colours could be less bold in a certain part to not take your attention. as for actual tips for colouring, there are millions of ways, but the key thing is finding the one you are comfortable with. you could do well at shading using the burn tool (i dont) so you could use that more. if not, you find other ways. my advice... you need to work on your shading. right now, the picture looks half done, but it is a good base point. like what you dont on the hair with the two differnt colours for the highlights and shadow, you need to do something like that for the whole thing. the skin, the clothes, everything. your colouring itself, looks smooth, you just need to take it to the next detailed level.

one of the things I don't understand is that I used the same colors as the source image, and they didn't do much shading, except for the shirt. i don't know how they made it look so good. There seems to be something that I am missing, that i haven't been able to figure out.

there is a difference between what your trying to accomplish, and what you could do. You are trying to copy it exactly as close as you can get it. That pic was drawn by a professional and they have got that style down to perfection. thats why it looks so good, because it has been done time, and time, and time again till its spot on.

now back to what i said... you asked for tips on colouring a piece. i mentioned some things... yes, you are right, there isnt alot of shading in that reference pic, but it you hold yourself to that reference pic completely, of course you will see how better that is. if you kicked it up a notch, and added more shading, you will have a pic of your own. it still might not be as good as the reference, but again, dont forget thats done by a paid professional.

if you want a simple answer... what are you missing colour and pose wise? nothing... just practice is what you have less of.

I do agree that I have to start doing my own thing, I started making copies because i wanted to figure out what the professionals were doing to make theirs so good. but yea, I agree I definately need more pratice.

from the sounds of that you are trying to hard. first of, realise something... draw because its fun. thats what i do.. and no, just because you like something, doesnt make it fun. drawing is a way to express yourself. the pictures i have been doing, are not the same drawings that was doing a year and a half ago. and im not just saying that... every one of the new pictures i make, everybody i know says you are improoving each and every time. and i'll tell you what the main thing is... its because im having more fun and not trying to force it out like i used to.

making copies is ok to start off.. but its much better to do your own thing. even if it doesnt turn out well. you will get into a swing, and slowly you will progress to something more comfortable. and when that does, like i said, you wont be worrying about "this doesnt look right, thats wrong" and you'll be having fun. thats what every professional does... if you dont worry about perfection, you wont notice the problems more. when you do, you can make a note of them next time, but dont trash the picture... its all part of improovement. i actually got into my art class at school cause i showed them the evolution of my pictures.

thanks 6N6... im lad you think so... im not just saying that if someone is having fun, they become amazing... it just makes the learning process go easier. but it does work.. haave fun with it, and improovement happenes faster..... drawing should never feel like a chore.

XD hehee i know.... but she is know as "the pink, leggy butterfly ninja" cause 1- she wears pink... and 2- her philosiphy and fighting style is based on something like the butterfly; a flap of a butterflies wings, makes a hurricane around the world... so her style is moves that she does at the start, usually end up biting her opponant in the ass when they dont expect it.

Hmm... is it just me... or do the pictures seem a little... flat? Oh, you poor thing, do you not have a scanner? T_T Goodness...


I won't rate, I might offend because I'm a tough rater. I will give a few hints, though...

1. One great way to keep your pictures balanced... before doing ANY details, lightly sketch the form of the body. Any online guide will give you the best tips. And when you add sketchy details, instead of erasing every few lines, go over it, details only, in ink, and then erase the pencil. That will almost always guarentee a clean-cut, proportional drawing

2. Coloring... try to take into mind where highlights and shadows are, and textures as well. Using colored pencils, you can create very nice textures.

And... that seems about it. You can do it! XD
