1. Recently my computer has been overheating alot and then it cools itself down. Is this damaging to the computer? Mostly it overheats when I use spybot and when I Disk Cleanup

2. Is it true if you shut down your computer rather than leave it on for extended periods of time you'll shorten the computers life span?

1. it sounds like you have a probelm with the fan wich is meant to cool the computer...or ethier your computer is simply to old to handle new programs.....and it's damagain when its heating up but cooling down just resotres things near how they wear before...to me you need to get a new computer lol XD

2.thats false and when you leave it on...your just running your bill up....shuting it down makes sure its stays better for longer and links dont get damaged

1.) How old is the computer? Every six months, it is a good idea to open up your computer and clean it out. A lot of dirt and lint builds up in the fan areas and on everything else.

To clean a comp: Make sure the computer is off. Unplug everything from it and take it to an area you don't mind getting dirty. Take the side panal off. Take a can of compressed air and spray it down. (You can get a can at any Wal-Mart or comp store. It costs about $6 or so.) Pick off any big clumps of gunk. Close it up and plug it back in.

2.) Well... Kinda. Having an electrical current constantly running through anything DOES shorten the lifespan somewhat. However, it is negligible. But computers also put off a lot of heat... Plus they suck up a lot of electricity. Leaving it on all of the time is not a good idea for those reasons.

And if you need another reason or two: Your computer will not get the Windows Automatic Updates if you don't shut it down. Also, if anything happens to it (blackout or something hits it or water is spilled on it and etc.) while it is turned on, there is more likely to be damage than if it were turned off.

Thank you very much ^^
