they ae the same chidori is the name kakashi gave it because it sounds like a 1000 birds and lightning edge is because he once split a tree with it(not sure about the tree thing)

but on the eps versus Haku... he said lightining Edge... and then he tought Sasuke chidori and hasn't stop usin it since.... but they both resemble each other

they are the same. the common name is chidori but lighting edge is a nickname for it becuase he once split a tree in half using it

It was Gai who said it during the Chuunin exams. I dunno if it was because it split a tree... I thought it was something like he hit lightning or something like that. Anyone want to verify it?

It was during the Gaara fight as it was being charged up while Gaara was inside his sand sphere. Gai said something then to Sakura, I think.

In the manga, Gai said it was called Lightning Edge because Kakashi cut a tree in half with it. In the anime, Gai said it was because Kakashi cut lightning in half with it. And L. Edge and Chidori are the same.
