In chinese, that has something to do with ice or snow. I would assume that in japanese, the meaning would also have something to do with ice or snow. Maybe we'll find out when 117 gets subbed tomorrow.

In its initial release state, Sode no Shirayuki is regarded as one of the most beautiful zanpakutō in Soul Society. It is completely white, including the hilt, crossguard, and blade. The tsuba turns to a circle and a white ribbon forms from the pommel. Sode no Shirayuki has control over ice, much like Tōshirō Hitsugaya's Hyōrinmaru, but uses it in a different manner.

Yea, I hate to assume though, but after watching the sub, it was clear he died coz his fellow Arrancars said so, so I'll just take it as that.

I think the ranking is how strong they are, Grimmjow is #6 so he is pretty strong.D-roy was #16 and easily got killed by Rukia,anyway, just a guess....
