When they are reborn, they lose all memories, characteristics and traits.

I can believe that, as well as perhaps the Shinigamis go to the dimension where the king lives.

As far as I can tell, if your soul dies, it goes into the whole rebirth thing... I'm guessing this because they talk of the Death Gods as balancers in the Quincy parts. Remember, when Quincy kill hollows, it kills the soul completely. If you do it with a sword, I guess they get purified and put into SS. I can only assume that if a soul is killed through normal means (non-Quincy), then they go into the rebirth shit.

If they die in SS, I think they dissappear because thre is no other place they can rebirth to.

My theory is that when someone dies in Soul Society their person's soul turns into spirit particles (which is what SS is made off).

I thought it was stated in the Manga that those killed in Soul Society went through rebirth as a human being?

I'm fairly sure it was said that those who die in Soul Society are reborn on Earth, just as it was explicitly stated that shinigami don't destroy souls, they purify them. This is also reflected by the flow of souls the shinigami protect, which exists between Soul Society and Earth; such a flow has to be two-way if it is to be balanced and if the destruction of a soul truly matters.

when someone in soul society dies their body desperses into tiny spirit particles and their spirit particles join the ones in Soul Society and remain there . . . it said so in the manga

I agree with that. Only makes sense.

Also, it wouldn't make sense for people who die in Soul Society to not be reborn.

I mean, think about it. If when you go to Soul Society is part of the Great Cycle of Rebirth, then you must, at some point, be reborn in the real world devoid of memories. Naturally, the trigger for that rebirth should be death in Soul Society. How else does the Cycle move forward? How else could it?

Also, Ganju couldn't simply be reborn to find his brother. Being reborn in the human world means giving up your identity and memories, which is why souls in Soul Society are afraid of death.

Oh! I just thought of something! People who are reborn in Soul Society and become Shinigami aren't supposed to remember their human lives. Does that mean if any of the current cast of main human characters were to die and be reborn as Shinigami, they wouldn't remember all of their friends and adventures?

That makes it far less of a safe bet if Ichigo dies. Even if he becomes Shinigami after death, which would make sense, he'd have lost his identity and everything that made him specifically "Ichigo".
