I'm not a Catholic but uhhhmmm,what do you think about him?is he any good?or is he better than pope john paul 2 or worst?If you dont know yet, then allow me, his name is Cardinal Ratzinger(is the spelling correct?) and he's a German cardinal....he chose the name Pope Benedict XVI...so what do you think about him?

well considering that the pope has only for like a day, so I can't really say "he is a great pope" or "he sucks"

altough I can say that I hope this pope will be more firmer when it comes to punishment of the "wicked>" Don't get me wrong, the last pope was great, but when those priests mellested those lil boys, John Paul II forgave them when I think that their punsihment should have been worse, so I am hoping that this new one will be a little more firmer when it comes to cases like that

I don't like how the church handeled the mollestation of children. although if the guy is as crazy as brent_d indicated I have a feeling that I will grow a strong dislike of him. I don't really know or care. I'm religiously ignorant. I don't know much about Catholicism or any religion for that matter. As long as he's doing a good job at what he does, and isn't being an ass to other religions, I have no problem with him.

I was hoping for a Mexican pope but I guess this guy is good. Although I cant really say he's good until he does something.

hmm im not religious, but the first thing i saw about him was that he was 78, thas kinda old dontcha think? n the whole thing about some ppl thinking hes a Nazi, thas bs, he isnt one.

I have to admit, when I heard that it was Ratzinger, I was like ok whatever. But when he came out for the first time to greet the public and I saw that smile on his face, I could not help but smile too. I'm glad that he is the pope.

And about that age thing, I would be a bit worried when there was a 30 year old pope or something ^_^ I guess that with age comes wisdom. This pope is older and wiser than some men that just became priest or bisshop or whatever. He's been around for a while, he has seen things. And I guess that's one of the reason to pick an older person. But that's just a matter of opinion I guess :)

The guy hasn't been the Pope for two weeks and already there seems to be a bit of controversy surrounding him...

Well, since I don't believe in organized religion, I'm not going to say "yea" or "nay" on the matter. And before anyone asks, no, I am not an athiest, since I do believe that there is a God. However, I do not believe in any of the religions that have come about since the dawn of man.

So far, I've only known John Paul II to have been Pope and I guess you can say that he did a good job...or not...depending on how you want to look at it. I mean, there was a lot of good that he did for the world, true, but where there's good, there's always something bad as well. Depends on what you REALLY want to stand out the most in these cases.

Whether or not Benedict XVI will be as good or better than JPII is yet to be determined. Sure, he may have been John Paul II's right hand man before he was voted in as Pope himself, but that really doesn't mean anything at all. If he is in for more than two years (before he retires or dies...whichever comes first) then we'll all be better able to tell whether or not he's a good choice for the Papacy. Only because it'll be a few years before his works really do show whether or not they're beneficial to society. Until then, I prefer not to make any assumptions at all about him.

I think it will be a good pope, but to conservative..
He is against homo mariage and birth controle, He doesn't have to approve it, but it would be nice if he just respects it..
But thats my oppinion..

I don't care about the whole thing coz am a muslim , but I hope he will be better than the previous one in tryin to make all religons live together in peace, and try to stop the dreams to convert poor muslims to catholics. We as muslims truthly believe that the christians r the nearest people to our faith, but we feel like the christianity treat us as enemies or something like that and this really sucks. :D

Who's the pope? What exactly does the pope do? Why is it that he's holier than other people? Why don't they get someone younger to be the pope? i dont really care.....who the pope is dusnt affect my religious beliefs because those r mine and my decisions....pope jpII was a gr8 pope tho and was a gr8 person and i dotn think this pope will liv up to that....especially since hes a 'temporary' pope....not in position he is the actual pope...but they needed sum1 to be a transition person until they can find a exemplorary person who cld become a gr8 pope.....

And to answer your questions, Uchiha1412Toshi, about why can't they choose someone younger - that's because you need to reach a certain rank to be able to run as a candidate for the next pope. And that's like a really high rank and by the time you reach that level, you're like freaking old! Well, that was how my previous history teacher said.
