ITT people generalising entire genres of music.
ITT someone pointing out the obvious. The generalization was intentional. I have issues with all music today and can't find myself caring enough to unearth the few gems illegally when the system wants to push disposable crap and I have a good collection of past music.

Just because it was intentional doesn't make it valid.
Rap, at it's core, is an adaptation of poetry, with the rhythm defined by a musical beat rather than isolated intonation. It's perfectly possible to rap Shakespeare. Who, while we're on the topic, is the definition of an artist that appeals to the "highly distracted ADD masses". His works are saturated with crude innuendos and jokes in his work that appealed the lowest common denominator of Elizabethan audiences. Want to start calling him out too? That fucking sellout.

Unfortunately todays rappers are rapping about dick, hoes, gangs, clubbing and drugs. No matter how much adaptation of poetry rap is, if it talks about those stuff all the time, its pretty hard to defend it. Because the public will define music by its lyrics.
And listeners of rap dont care about lyrics. As long the beat is all right, they will dance all night.

And the Carmina Burana is basically a collection of ramblings of horny monks about being drunk, eating a lot and gambling, but it endured for many centuries and eventually created Carl Orff's homonym magnum opus. It's all about presentation: Carmina Burana was subtle on the naughty, Shakespeare was already pushing it but still managed to get it under the radar, most (not all, I'm aware of that) modern rappers thrive on the filthiness and will probably be forgotten in some years.
And to be honest, would you notice this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FqeX888P18) is about being so horny for the first time that the guy is almost staining his pants and the girl in the ends basically says "fuck me!" if I didn't tell you so? Subtlety and melody go a long way.

Kluang - That's retarded bro. Few points there, listeners of rap do give a good shit about lyrics, quite a lot of us actually, but just because a track might not have amazing lyrics it can still be enjoyed. I'm not sure how much rap you've heard, but allow me to assure you that todays rappers don't all talk about "dick, hoes, gangs, clubbing and drugs" all the time. A lot of mainstream rap and hip hop may deal with things like that, but it can still be enjoyed as good music. Maybe all the rappers you've heard, in which case, listen to some more if you have the time.
It's not really hard to defend at all, it's a genre that produces amazing artists and music, much like every other genre out there, if it's not to your tastes as a genre then that's cool it's completely understandable, but to try and put it down because of your own ignorance of what's available is a bit tarded.
Tl;dr - Nuh-uh.
Also KillerNN, after having his album on repeat ever since I downloaded it I'm starting to love it even more. Bit of a change of style from The Cool, but nothing too drastic and still Lupe at the core, though I can see why he would say he hates it after what he went through to make and release it. I'm hoping he still makes more and this isn't his final one like he said it would be. You heard his I'm Beamin' remix with All City Chess Club (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LruJSiVmOYA)? Speaking of albums constantly on, last years Big Bois album has been listened to daily ever since release.
Big Boi - Be Still (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxV5Y6UufU8)
And some others that tend to get frequent listens:
Dumbfounded & Wax - Different Galaxies (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RBqF0Dt2de0)
Shad (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uQZ2g1s8e4s)
Childish Gambino (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otPxoVQiIGo), waiting for him to do a show in London, wanna go.
Das Racist - Raping 2 U (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndnCkUDQFUE)
Tablo - For the Kids
(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KaRws9Apw8)
Pac Div - Put Me On (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umcvUUWHluY)
Janelle Monae feat. B.o.B and Lupe - Tightrope (Wondamix) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GlpeFqMLZI&feature=related)
Not rap but while we're linking,
Monty Python - Sit On My Face (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FKeQpeDkoGc)

Tastes can be argued, everywhere but in music, that was always my take on it.
I like all kinds of music. I can enjoy rap, metal, techno, or any other kind of music. But it might also be that I don't enjoy many songs as well. Just taste.

I just listen to whatever sounds badass. And I don't know shit about music. I didn't like most of the stuff Arty posted. Not because it sucks, because I don't know enough about music to judge the quality of it or anything. It just didn't evoke any sort of emotional response, which is what I usually look for in mai music. I want to get pumped, inspired, happy, etc. Some dude rapping about how he's a rapper, or whatever, doesn't really do it for me. Some dude rapping about having an indomitable fighting spirit or some shit, on the other hand...

Wasn't trying to imply that the music doesn't evoke emotion, only that it doesn't for me. I don't know enough about music to judge it based on objective quality or anything. That's why I never really talk about music shit, other than stating my personal preference or some shit.
Like, I don't really like Bullet to my Valentine (I do like All That Remains though, Kael =D). I dunno if they actually suck or not, because I dunno how to judge music in any sort of objective way. Jaxon probably knows, so it's cool if he implies that it sucks. I just stick to saying "I lyke/dislyke dat."
So, tl;dr version: Wasn't saying the shit you like isn't good or anything. In fact, it probably is pretty good, since OH comrades tend to have superior taste in all things.

Suck/don't suck is all a matter of personal tastes. Jaxon isn't a fan of Bullet and I respect that. Demi isn't a fan of metal (I'm guessing) and I respect that. My personal tastes fall in line with metal and most of its forms, so to me it doesn't suck. My personal taste with rap is the extreme vast majority sucks (according to my own tastes in music, this isn't an absolute thing).
So, tl;dr version: Wasn't saying the shit you like isn't good or anything. In fact, it probably is pretty good, since OH comrades tend to have superior taste in all things.

Pussy death metal is death metal that should be in the lighter metal section because it really doesn't sound like death metal. I heard a couple but don't really know the artist's name since I didn't see it.
I just started Death Metal as I said earlier so I know very few(My friend introduced me to rock, metal, heavy metal, and death metal.) Deathclok and Mastodon are probably the only death metal/heavy metal I know. I listen to Primus because the bass is crazy. An opinion sure but, calling an entire genre of music... not music seems a bit extreme I would say, not saying you have to like it, but denying it's actual music seems a bit much. Kind of like saying you're gonna go eat at Burger King because McDonalds doesn't make actual food.

Oh, no, that's what I was trying to say, it's a valid point because it's a matter of taste. While it doesn't evoke emotional response in you, it does to me, so I can't expect you to like it or look down on you for not liking it if it doesn't really stimulate you in anyway. (Hehe, stimulate.)

So "pussy death metal" is metalcore bands. Groups like All That Remains, Shadows Fall, Killswitch Engage, Trivium, etc. gotcha.
I just started Death Metal as I said earlier so I know very few(My friend introduced me to rock, metal, heavy metal, and death metal.) Deathclok and Mastodon are probably the only death metal/heavy metal I know.
If you listen to Dethklok then you'll like Cannibal Corpse since the guy that created Dethklok took a lot of influences from Cannibal Corpse. There's also Whitechapel (look up the song "This is Exile"), Job for a Cowboy, The Black Dahlia Murder, Behemoth, Amon Amarth, and several others that you might enjoy.
I listen to Primus because the bass is crazy.
Primus is alternative rock.
Some other bands are "30 seconds from Mars" The Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins and Blink 182.
And now you fell into punk rock. The main genre I cannot stand in the Rock spectrum. I do like 30 seconds to Mars and some Smashing Pumpkins (fun fact, the original bassist is from my home town).

Some other bands are "30 seconds from Mars" The Smiths, Smashing Pumpkins and Blink 182. A couple of others I heard on Guitar hero but I never really looked into their songs.
30 Seconds TO Mars. Who are terrible. Music for adverts.
The Smiths are like, 80's post-punk, man, what the fuck.
Smashing Pumpkins are mid 90's alt-rock/grunge.
Blink 182 are solidly pop-punk.

Go for it man, music is music.
If you insist, I'll just do one song from a few bands.
Whitechapel (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0kMCGz1EKzU)
Cannibal Corpse (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UgnEU77kcA8)
Lamb of God (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fOWB6rmSd4I). I wouldn't necessarily call them death metal, but they do get to death metal extremes.
Behemoth. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2shxcirlcck&feature=relmfu) These guys are nuts live.
Cradle of Filth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pr86YRWpqLI&feature=artist). Technically they're classed as "Black Metal".
Demi-God
03-06-2011, 06:09 PM
Ah sweet, I already have the Lamb of God discography, was interested in them after I heard their Dead Seeds track. Cradle of Filth I've heard before, decent stuff. Out of the other three, not too bad, definitely a bit more extreme than I'm used to but worth looking into more. Like the Behemoth one best out of those three, Lamb of God most out of the 5, maybe cause I'm more used to them. Seems like it might be a good idea to listen some of these while at the gym.
kael03
03-06-2011, 06:23 PM
I've seen all of them but Cradle live. Behemoth/Whitechapel/Cannibal Corpse were all at the same Mayhem Fest as Killswitch and Lamb of God was at Mayhem Fest '10. The song that got me started with Cradle was actually "Her Ghost in the Fog".
But yeah, definitely stuff to listen to when you want to get pumped about something.
Just because it was intentional doesn't make it valid.
Rap, at it's core, is an adaptation of poetry, with the rhythm defined by a musical beat rather than isolated intonation. It's perfectly possible to rap Shakespeare. His works are saturated with crude innuendos and jokes in his work that appealed the lowest common denominator of Elizabethan audiences. Want to start calling him out too? That fucking sellout.
That's fine. I don't get exposed to the "core" and thus it doesn't define my definition of rap. Whether or not you think that makes me wrong doesn't matter, as art is subjective.
That said, yeah - let's call out Shakespeare (even though I was talking music not play). When dude didn't have a word for what he wanted to say, he made on up. Lazy gormfuchen.
Jaxon
03-06-2011, 07:19 PM
You misinterpreted my use of the word "core". By that I mean it's something common to all rap, bad and good. Soulja Boi's "rap" fits this definition as well as Lupe Fiasco's, just as there's good poetry and bad poetry.
And yes, I know we're talking about music. I made an analogy. It's like an anal orgy, but not. And besides, you think up a better word for a bubble than... bubble.
OK - I concede the point on the core; I did misunderstand. I just don't find the appeal in most of it and listen to songs that contain other aspects of music rather than the poetic core.
Also, while I enjoy the nature of your posts, I found the analogy slight insulting.
As for bubble, I'd generally go with detergent gas orb, but those words already exist. So... fluppon. As in, "you're so stupid, your idea of fun is blowing fluppons with your spit."

Urgh, I know. Why did Hugo Weaving replace Welker for the movie, when they even put Welker in the fucking videogame? Weaving's evil voice is so Hollywood generic.
Michael Bay had Welker send in samples for the movie, but felt the voice didn't fit the design for Megatron and making Welker change it would be a dishonor to him.

While Batskates prepared to fight a ice specific foe that you didn't know about in a temperate climate city is pretty bad... for me, it remains (as all things Batman should, with Adam West) with the Shark Repellent Batspary he had read in his helicopter. Tom Hardy is playing Bane, so far. Hopefully Nolan will keep to the comics with Bane and not have him be the bumbling retard that was in Batman & Robin. Anne Hathaway is going to play Selina Kyle (aka Catwoman). Not sure if it's before or after she becomes Catwoman.

What kluang said. Nolan came out after Heath's death and said as long as he's doing the Batman movies he's not reusing the Joker character in honor of Heath. But the Dark Knight Rises is going to be his last Batman movie so whoever is going to direct the next one can use the Joker again.
I'm told that it is indeed Catwoman - so make of that what you will. Also rumours have the addition of Talia Al Ghul, daughter of Raj, as a controller/creator of Bane. Which follows some of the comic book lines. Basically, if that happens it becomes a Batman love triangle with the risk of getting your back broken.
Which is going to be silly, because you know he'll choose Hathaway...
Anyway, if it is at Arkham, I'm guessing Nolan had every intention of having a Joker cameo or minor part, but I think with Ledger's death, he just doesn't want to give it to anyone else. Which sucks and makes Heath an even bigger jackass for getting screwed up.

No, it's because Heath did such a good job that Nolan can't see anyone else as the Joker. It's like Michael Bay not wanting Frank Welker to change his Megatron voice for the movies, it would be a disservice to the actor.
But yeah, Nolan is trying to make the Batman trilogy more realistic. Which is why he shot down the idea of using the Penguin. It would be too difficult to incorporate Penguin into the universe based on what is already there.

First part agreed. But I don't like Nolan's reasoning on the second bit. It could have been a great chance to re-envision certain characters so that they aren't the supernatural villains but just regular humans (deformed or enhanced maybe) with certain demented catches. That could have been interesting.
Also, the more I think about it, the more I hope that Catwoman is some elaborate ruse and Hathaway is really Harlequin... because that's such a better role for her.

Andrea Beaumont aka the Phantasm. I really really like her in mask of the phantasm.
Well, I'd definitely would have liked to see some continuation of the Joker story - particularly after that "I have a feeling we will do this forever" or whatever it was - to which I surely would have done Harlequin. It's easy, but I'd like to see it.
A new underworld Kingpin could easily be a good protagonist after the calamity of what the Joker did, and you could easily slide the Penguin into this role, but leave out the camp. Perhaps he's a stout guy who wears tuxes all the time, so he's deemed the Penguin because of it. Given him an umbrella a la the assassins one (you know, where the guy stabbed another guy with a poison pill) or something and he could be the string puller. Part of the story would probably ride too closely to Batman Returns, as right now Nolan's Batman is hugely unpopular and an underworld grab at the city's power is possible.
I don't see the reason for Catwoman. Don't like it. But if Nolan goes after the Talia and Bane story to tie into Raj, I'm good with that.
Beyond that, I'm finding trouble thinking of major villains. Removing the freeze gun, Mr Freeze is just a mad scientist, which doesn't lead to much and we already had Scarecrow. Dr. Strange or Mad-hatter's mind control could have been fun, but isn't enough. Zsasz would make a nice side character, good and dark, potential Joker influence, but again, not major.
I was always a big fan of the Riddler - the whole cerebral battle, if well done, would have made a really interesting movie, but not an action packed on. Probably would have bombed, still... kinda wish it could have been him.
kluang
03-09-2011, 10:39 PM
Maybe riddler can play with batman, and luring batman to one place or another while his real objective remains unseen.
Penguin can be an underground kingpin with a legitimate front. A high class restaraunt.
A new white knight should emerge replacing dent.
poison ivy can be a bio chemist specialize in hallucination or poisons.
mad hatter can be a crazy psychiatrist specialized in mind control.
There should be Riddler clues in this movie. And then the next one could focus on it.
I had the impression this was it for Nolan and Batman movies.

Zsasz and the Riddler would work well in a movie together. Riddler could be manipulating Zsasz and leaving the riddles for Batman to solve in order to get there and stop Zsasz, but then it seems like a whole movie dedicated to something they did briefly in Dark Knight when the Joker set up Batman during the Parade with the snipers and all.
Dr. Strange would go well, but he seems to be a big player in the new Batman game so ideas might conflict there. Mad Hatter seems too un batmansih to place as a titular villian. I see a Joker reference in Rises with the Jokers suit hanging up or maybe a profile on a computer screen.
The Underworld scene would go well with Black Mask at the helm. it's just a pitty they didn't have a robin to be killed off by the joker and return at the Red Hood. but then again it's a bit hard to go through 2 robins in 2 movies.
Freeze they could do, as long as they didn't make him look like a glorified christmas decoration.
I think Bane is a brilliant choice as long as they keep him the intellectual he really is instead of a brainless wonder who struggles to grasp the concept of standing and thinking at the same time.
Catwoman would be better introduced as Selina Kyle alone.
Firefly would be good, A pyromaniac with a Jetpack and flamethrower. he falls right in with out much adjustment.
Penguin could be pulled of aslong as they remove him from the sewers and give him the ecentric personality and club that he possesses in other media i.e. Animated Series and Comics.
Talia is a good addition. but I'm not hoping for some retarded 3 way love triangle.

I never really was a fan of Spider Man. He's gotta be like the lamest superhero ever. His powers aren't all that powerful and that spandex makes him look gay IMO.

wolverine looked silly in his bright yellow, i admit, but he was still AWESOME.

If you have a body like Spider Man's, you'd look gay in spandex. I actually prefer spandex on some superheroes, but SM isn't one of them :D X-Men had their own outfits which made the whole thing look cool. And it fitted them nicely as well. So, yes it was awesome!

You're an idiot if you're going to try that game. Peter's parents died in a car accident when he was a kid, his aunt and uncle then took him in. Just after he got his powers his uncle was killed and Peter grew more responsible because he could've stopped the guy that killed him.
The current story has Peter and Mary Jane not married, and Aunt May is married to Jameson (wtf??)

On topic of heroes: I would pick Deadpool(I know he's an anti-hero) and if I can't pick him, then Dante from DMC and if not, then Zero(Not Megaman Zero, Omega Zero.) I don't like the Hulk....at all. All he does is overwhelm enemies with his strength no tricks or anything.
Magneto is the greatest superhero of all time.

I wanted to have a friendly approach here and not fight. But seriously, I don't want to get into anymore pointless arguments again.
OT: The reason that I like the Hulk is that, unlike other superheroes, he doesn't have any control over his power. So, IMO that makes him a real beast. It's because he doesn't have control over his powers that he's wild now and beats his opponents senseless. And like I said, his strength is overwhelming. He doesn't think about what he's doing or what he's going to do. He just does it. People know not to anger or mess with the Hulk.
Also, happy Pi day to you too ACT :D

No, they're the actors (since the show has been up for decades). For me, the 5th and 10th actors playing the role of the Doctor are the absolute best of the batch.
Also, this series look really, really cheap and trashy. I don't think I'd really appreciate that.
Well, if you are preoccupied with looks, then see from 9th doctor on, since it's produced from 2005 on, instead of the 60's-80's.
But you really should disregard the bad visual effects and see the substance of the show. There are things that are simply awesome.

I wanted to do everything in my journal thing before I left, because I dunno if I'll be able to go back and do it later. And shit kept popping up in there. Most of it just giving a dude something I found in a sack or something though.
Also, respec'd my dude for two-handed. That works so much better than sword and shield style. I should have done that sooner. That's what I get for not sticking with the manliest weapons right away.

Yeah, once you complete the Deep Roads it goes off into the second act, so best to finish everything beforehand. Two-handed is so much better in this, I would suggest investing points into the Battlemaster tree for Bolster and Second Wind, especially Bolster. Check out the DA2 thread, posted some on it.
I think I finished all the quests in the first Act, not sure about the second, just started on the final Act... 27 hours of gameplay so far.
