Not sure about this, but i've heard that rmvb is better quality than rm. But i'm not sure.
rm stands for real media, and rmvb stands for real media video.... something. XP
Sorry, I'm not much help.

You can use Easy RealMedia Producer
Here's a link to the installer

(Note: Sorry if posting this is against the rules...
I can't find anything posted saying anything against it.)

The settings used by places like BleachTV, Naruto-Bunshin, and probably NarutoCentral as well are:
BitRate at ~200 (try setting 250-500)
FPS is 15.
Audio is 64 kbps music
(NOT 64 kbps stereo music, hence, it is mono)
Screen resolution: 508x380
-----
Some tips:
Lowering FPS from 29.97(standard) to 15 hardly affects the filesize.
I don't recommend it.
Setting the audio to mono also hardly saves space. Stereo is good.
Lowering the resolution from 640x480 hardly reduces filesize too,
but it seems that it almost HALVES the CPU requirement to play the video.
(i.e. 640x480 vids lag on a 700 mhz PC, but 508x380 vids play perfectly).
Your choice.
Bitrate determines the animation quality, but also affects file size DRASTICALLY.
i.e. the bitrate they use (~200) seems ok,
but when the ENTIRE SCREEN is scrolling, the animation is jumpy.
When you use the default settings, that's 450-900,
animation is crisp even when the screen is scrolling.
But 200 kbps files are around 30-40 mb.
400 kbps files are 70+ mb.
Your choice.
Full screen scrolls are rare anyway. Even in fight scenes.

Uhmm, RM stands for Real Media while RMVB stands for Real Media Variable Bitrate. The difference between the two is that RM uses one bitrate all throughout, so whether the scene is an action scene or, say, an atmosphere scene where not much animation happens, the bitrate stays the same. RMVB, on the other hand, as the name implies, uses variable bitrate. For example, in scenes where there is more animation (or many frame changes occur), like, a fight sequence, RMVB uses higher bitrate so that the sequence is smooth and not choppy while for scenes with less frame changes, lower bitrate is used.
Anyone, feel free to correct me if I misstated some concepts here. :)

use winavi video converter. i dunno where to get it but just google it. cool for encoding any media formats (well, it's usually .mpeg and .avi) into rm/rmvb format. and rmvb is slightly better than rm format. i've noticed that because i downloaded episodes in two versions.
Lmao, I use real media producer 1.98
It takes like 30-40 minutes to do one episode, and the settings I use are much different, since I make the 170mb files to 90, which is raond half of it's size almost, with the -exact- same quality.

in winavi it will only take 8-10 minutes per ep. being faster means being more convenient.

Yea Just Use a Converting Software....Just be aware dont use your computer while you encode...Encoding takes up alot of CPU and doing stuff while its encoding will drastically slow down the process.
