A bit lazy to write detailed predictions so this is K-lai's version: very short

chapter 604 : Help from a stranger

obito goes to help them.
kakashi and rin managing to hold the enemy off
obito lends a hand but does not reveal himself or his intentions are stopped by the zetsu.
kakashi being busy with saving obito the stranger from a blind attack leaves rin vulnerable.
Rin gets attacked leaving her severely injured
The mission comes to a sudden halt as kakashi tries to save her from dying
Rin tells kakashi to cotinue with the mission to which he reluctantly agrees to
Obito witnessing from his zetsu shell could not do anything
Zetsu sends him back to the cave cos he's reached his limit
Obito curss kakashi for letting rin die and quickly waits patiently to become madara's tool.

^I doubt that. If that was the case, why is he taking it up on Kakashi for being responsible for Rin's demise

Obito never said Kakashi was responsible for Rin's death only that he let her die. Basically that Kakashi broke his promise because he wasn't able to protect Rin.

It's an obvious ploy at blaming the world for your own problems & lashing out at everything around you because of your unwillingness to accept the faults within yourself. It even plays into why he feels the need to always wear a mask. It's because he's ashamed with himself like being unable to look yourself in the mirror because of gilt or something.

So yeah it actually does make sense that Obito would mistakenly kill Rin & eventually go crazy because of it. It's still stupid as hell but whatever.
