I've shot $2k+ Wilson Combat, $900 Kimber, and various Springfield Armory .45's at the local range, but for $560 (half the price) this is a decent buy. The rest of Taurus's guns are shit. I'm planning for the concealed carry course I'll take in January.

Bal - Yes. Buying a gun for self defense seems lame. I bought one so I don't have to borrow my pop's or the range's. I shoot for fun because it is the simple joy of making things go "bang". That and competative shooting is fun and practical. It makes more sense than playing video games for hours to master that "headshot" or be #1 in Halo.
