Exactly. War itself and the experience of it could drive someone like Nagato to cause such harm and chaos. It's not unlike today's world in the middle east where war has always been the norm and innocent children and parents get caught in the crossfire. How would you expect the kids to feel if their parents, friends or pets gets killed in front of them? They would want revenge. They would someday make those people pay for what they did. I'm not saying what Nagato is doing is justified but he has a pretty good reason for bringing destruction and chaos to the Hidden Leaf and the rest of the Ninja world.
