Sakura has always been a main character, to form the final piece of the analogy between the Sannins and the 3 main characters. Honestly, seeing the amount of flak she receives for being a weak-ass noob "in comparison to Naruto and Sasuke" makes me wanna wish that Hinata never turns into a main character.
I don't see it happening, her personality may change and Naruto may become more friendly with her or may even date her, but Sakura is the main female character. This manga is about Sasuke and Naruto, Sakura is the only other character who will be given much of anything.
