The Espada preside over Hueco Mundo and all of them except for the one Rukia killed, were Adjuchas-class Hollows or more before shinigamifcation (we aren't told who might have been what besides this). Some of them COULD have been Vasto Lordes before they became Arrancar but we haven't been told 100% yet. My guess is that Ulquorria and above were but there's no evidence.
