So I was reading about Winnipeg just now, because I realized I know nothing about its history, and I came upon this. A 1942 simulated Nazi invasion of the city to inspire residence to purchase Victory Bonds and help finance the war.

This included:
- simulated fire-fights in the streets
- arrest/imprisonment of the mayor and a visiting Norwegian minister
- lowering the Union Jack and flying the swastika
- German Reichsmarks given as change in local shops
- renaming of the city to "Himmlerstadt"
- a supplement in the city's newspaper which included censored articles and "Nazi equivalent" columns
- air raid sirens, a city wide black out and fly-bys by Nazi planes
- armed troop patrols throughout the city, and a fucking Nazi tank column proceeding down Portage Avenue
