Not trying to be a hater here (sasuke sux, let's see who takes the bait), but isn't it
possible that Naruto felt that he couldn't break Sasuke's resolve? I mean, if it's based on something that happened during the "mental clash" or whatever, when he "saw Sasuke's intentions", isn't there a decent chance that, especially considering that it was his goal to try to change Sasuke's mind, he "couldn't beat" Sasuke the way Sasuke had become, so insanely fixated on his goal that nothing could honestly break down Sasuke's single-minded desire for revenge? I'm not saying that Naruto would beat Sasuke now
in a fight, at best possible (read:unlikely) case for him it'd be dead even.
