I know you are now, but your post suggests that you started off laughing at the idea of toxic sludge overrunning a community then only turning to disturbed at pictures of dead animals, asking "why did they show me that?" My point was the impact is made clear early on and the pictures of the dead animals merely highlight that. Picture one is just as bad as anything else, but it took a dead animal for you to feel the gravity of the situation - and that's why they are there; to hit home what should be obvious.
