Well being red in the game means you have been brandished a murder. Either for building your wealth from or having your fun by killing other players. The disadvantages were numerous. Devastating stat/skill loss upon death and subsequent resurrection. Constantly defending yourself against overwhelming numbers of fool hardy "blues" trying to literally cut off your head, and collect the bounty attached to it, and the inability to enter mainstream city's to access vendors or even your bank box.
I also realize that there is no "war" going on. It was simply deja vu. Think of it as a geeky acid flash back. If I truly had to venture a guess Id say the red guys are mods on other forums belonging to a larger network. This is not uncommon, so it would not surprise me for them to have access beyond others.
