Yeah, the whole reason Britain claimed the land is because their prisons were over flowing. So after the decided to keep the land there was a streak in British history where everyone brought before a judge whether it be for murder or stealing a loaf of bread or even murdering to steal a loaf of bread you were sent to Australia.

Fun Fact: Australia's first poilce were the 12 best behaved convicts.
