Has anybody else been following a long? I love checking up on all the pictures it's sending back. Pretty awesome.
This rover is as big as a compact car, has HD video cameras on it, and not to mention a myriad of other scientific instruments (high resolution microscope, spectrometers, etc). Now that it's safely landed. We have a lot to learn.
Now, the rover sends data to Earth by taking pictures, storing the images in its 2 GB flash drive, and sends it to its linked satellite called Odyssey. Odyssey is only in communication for like 8 Minutes at a time.
Once Odyssey has the data, it then sends it back to Earth.
When Curiosity landed, Odyssey was only in comm range for a few minutes after it landed.
