I'm going to give Kishi the benefit of the doubt on this one. He did draw Neji looking a bit worn out, plus all the chakra expelled on multiple executions of this "Hyuuga Ultimate Jutsu"... As to the earlier mention that the spikes were going too fast...it is admittedly a weak sounding argument because the spikes should have essentially been coming from one direction, allowing Neji to focus his chakra bursts to one side...still the mass and potential speed of a projectile coming from a bijuu does make this credible.
Bottom line...how much wood can a bijuu chuk...and how fast.
