Kishi is making a real habit of this. Wasn't Orochimaru pressed to switch bodies immediately (which he ended up doing) or rely on Tsunade's healing? No one would have even guessed Orochimaru had problems with his arms until Suigetsu said it was the reason Orochimaru couldn't fight back against Sasuke; which we explicitly remember Sasuke pinning a sickly Orochimaru by his hands to the wall with a chidori based jutsu so Orochimaru couldn't fight back.
