I see "friendzoning" as when somebody says they don't want to ruin the friendship by turning it into a relationship despite both parties being fond of one another. Though that's not the common definition, these days it's come to mean "I was nice to her and made up a contract in my head that she should bed me, but she didn't. NICE GUYS ALWAYS LOSE!"
