They did, and I actually didn't notice it at first. I kind of wonder why, since you'd have to know about the sake cups to make the connection. Maybe they just felt the American audience wouldn't understand...I hope they hold off in the future, as it was a tad clunky. Also, it was Jiraiya's cup while he was with the two chicks.

In any case, Jiraiya already said that alcohol was one of the three danger vices for a ninja, and Naruto said he was succumbing to all three, so anybody paying attention knows he was getting drunk.

Indeed, I think the problem was the original dubbing group was too pathetic to attempt and stretch the dialog to cover for the "-dattebayo"s. They used the "Believe it" whenever things got difficult; but now that Naruto's becoming something of a hit in America, they're doing a better job on scripting it.

Shizune may have "aiee!"ed in the Jap version, but the dub "aiee!" sounds annoying. YEs, the oinkoink IS hilarious!
