I bet no-ones watched this cept me OffTheChain and Ninja48 but it is an excellent anime, it's one of the latest works of GAINAX studios (co-produced by Konami and Aniplex) but doesn't seem too popular on the forums so I (and OTC) thought we/i'd start a thread to share it with everyone.

(Short note this was all originally written so cut me some slack if it's long)

Staring from the left:

Simon
He is the main protagnist, his character is mainly associated with drills and he has a very timid nature more one to follow orders than give them. He pilots Lagann the smallest mecha seen yet but one of the most powerful.

Kamina
He is the second protagonist we are introduced to, he initially uses a sword which he takes from his village leader but later pilots Gurren one of the largest mechas seen so far.

Yoko
She is the third main protagonist introduced, she wields a long rifle that she can use in sniping situations or close up, she has great skill with it and has yet to miss a target.

Here's a little more info on the main mechas.

Lagann

The small sized mecha that is discovered underneath Jiha village, it has the ability to merge with other mechas and to produce a drill from the forehead area.

Gurren

A larger mecha that is introduced later on in the second episode, it brags great strength and speed when first introduced and grows with Kamina. It also later on has a glasses/weapon addition on it's chest that is used in battle.

Wow. I've never heard of this series yet, but I'm sure to watch it. Especially if those are HQ episodes.
Watched the trailer and it looks pretty cool. That drill-looking thing that glowed in the trailer reminded me of Plue's nose from Rave Master. lol

Ah, you know anime is usually recorded on tv, and trasferred to the net, where it's fansubbed etc? Sometimes, new anime don't get their time removed, or it's difficult. So sorry, wouldn't know how.

hmm... figures. many mecha animes dont hav manga... well coz every eps of it basically has the same plot... good robot defeats bad robt, bad robot attacks on another day... lol

It's just an anime project. May be manga later. Besides, these guys did make Neon G.E back in the day and FLCL.

You might be thinking of Gunbuster. Gurren Lagann pays homage to a lot of older robot animes.

And Gurren Lagann isn't "pretty good." It's mother fucking amazing.

Our story starts in Jiha village with a 14 year old miner called Simon (That's my name =p), his Aniki Kamina the leader of the Gurren-Dan a self formed group. The day after the Gurren-Dan tried to make it through the roof to the surface (Which is forbidden in their village) a mechanical like creature called a Ganmen breaks through the roof threatening the peace of the village, Kamina fearlessly faces up to the creature but has to be saved swiftly by a combination of a beautiful girl from the surface's rifle skills and Simons adept mining. Simon takes them to something he discovered earlier which the girl now named as Yoko confirms as another Ganmen, he manages to use a small drill like device which he found earlier to activate it and with a combination of luck and the will to protect his Aniki he manages to defeat the creature and break through to the surface at the same time, as they rotate far above the surface they view for the first time the world outside their village but when they come crashing down they find themselves surrounded by two more Ganmen creatures.
