Hyde keeps much of his personal information secret, including his real name and birth date.
It is said that his real name is Hideto Takarai, but the name Doi Hachiro was given by tetsu because the name Hyde (pronounced Ha-i-do in Japanese), when reversed, becomes Do-i-ha.
Fans have a general belief that his birth date is January 29, 1969. It is still unknown if this is his actual birthday.
Rumor has it that he is as tall as one hundred and fifty-six centimeters.
Hyde is often mistaken to be mixed-race or Eurasian, but he has stated on several interviews that he is pure Japanese.
He was the guitarist in the band Jelsarem's Rod before being recruited as the vocalist of L'Arc~en~Ciel.
In addition to vocals, Hyde has also sung background vocals, played the guitar, drums, harmonica, and saxophone during concerts.
Hyde is color-blind to a certain extent.

Hyde didn't want to be a vocalist. When L'Arc~en~Ciel was just starting out, he said he wasn't good at singing.

In the music video for Kasou, Hyde's image was inspired by Mick Karn from JAPAN.
Hyde has stated in multiple interviews that growing up he was greatly influenced by genres such as British new-wave and heavy metal.
Hyde's use of Christian imagery in his recent work, for example his use of his appearance on the cover of FAITH wearing a crown of thorns and the staging of FAITH Live Tour in a setting obviously designed to resemble the interior of a church, has resulted in his being asked if he is in fact a Christian. In a magazine interview, Hyde answered that he does acknowledge Jesus as a 'saviour of humankind', and if this made him a Christian, than he had no problems with it, though he was 'pretty sure it doesn't work this way,' further stating that he has not actually asked for salvation as such, and has not been baptised. In addition to this, Hyde also admitted he preferred to work with other Japanese singers and musicians of various genres who he knew are Christians, because "they have been very nice to him and his family", and praised them as being "very hard-working people, and very good people... with a kind of power moving around them. It's a strong power, but it's not a violent power."
