Sort of. Also, lack of jutsu variety and procrastination. Shikamaru's a great character but...
*slaps self* Okay, supposedly brains do matter. AND he has great knack for strategies. That helps the situation, but someone else who's somewhat similar to him is Deidara. Deidara had awesome strategies, but his abilities and power is what, I don't know, ungenius'd him? If Deidara's fit to be a genius, then Shikamaru is. (Wait...vice versa that, mah bad.)

If you look carefully, you'll notice that Tsunade is the only kunoichi on the list. Reasons (taken from our discussion about the kunoichi of the series) are listed in the spoilers below.

And...I wouldn't think she's smarter than Shikamaru. As for her power, well, technically we haven't exactly seen whether she's improved much or not, but she's a Jounin, so she has to be somewhat powerful.

Sasuke's been saved by Sakura before... and by Naruto. o.o And he had just lost against Gaara. Does that make him less of a genius? Not to me. <.<

And what about Kakashi being saved by Naruto and Sasuke in the Wave Arc? He's a genius and yet had to have two genin bail him out...

The gender shouldn't matter... I had a completely different take on that anyway. I thought it was awesome that Temari saved Shikamaru. It didn't make me think less of Shika either, considering that Temari had already been established as the current strongest girl, of this generation. If it had been Neji who saved Shika, would your view have been different? Despite the fact that both Neji and Temari can be described as powerful and intelligent?

I don't know why I overlooked Temari. o:
Well, I'm going to consider her more later...
But SL has a point, we haven't seen a display of her skills in Part II...

First of all, I was referring to that old cliche (I wonder how you make the fancy e?) which competitive kids usually say - "You got beat by a girl!"

I really never paid attention to this fight in particular, even though Tayuya had a flute (flute loops are <3!) because it sort of didn't really appeal to me. (The reason for this might have been that I kept skipping parts to get to Naruto vs. Sasuke faster. I can't exactly remember.) But it's not because Tayuya was a female; she was a really interesting character who was awesome in genjutsu - with a flute, too! - and her occasional swearing often made things a little humorous at times.

I don't know why or how, but yeah, this isn't important. I never really saw how he fought, but the actual reason why I lowered his geniusity (geniosity, why do I keep forgetting! 8D) thingy was because he actually had to be saved by someone, ditto Kiba. I'm not quite sure if it was because Tayuya was harder, but I know that Sakon was stronger than the others, I think...I think.

Maybe I'll rewatch this arc and get my head in the game...

But, I guess, here's my final answer:
In summary, all I'm saying is Shikamaru's lack of jutsu variety is similar to that of Deidara, even though they're battle-smart.

Also, I have a question - Shikamaru is clever and strategically intelligent; is he also, just, well, intelligent, like Sakura?

The whole reason for these debates is that we don't know what the definition of an actual Naruto genius is.

As for Sakura...I don't know. We've seen some stuff from her, and I've sort of been impressed, especially in her taijutsu skills. (And her personality.)

Also, I have another question.
Sakura has been said to be good in genjutsu, according to Kakashi. Is this only because she was good at repelling it, or is she just a genjutsu master hiding her identity? :-O!

Currently, in all he's done, yeah. Pretty much. But I thought that Madara >>>>>>>>> Orochimaru, specifically because if there was no Kyuubi, then there'd be no demon in Naruto. If there was no demon released, then there would still be the Yondaime, Kushina, Iruka's parents (hahaha, forgot about this), and a lot of more people alive. Which means it'd have a storyline similar to the Smurfs, except no Gargamel. (Don't ask me how I know this.)

the sound four fought in order of how strong they were. Jirobo, then Sakon/Ukon, then Kidomaru, then Tayuya.

About Sakura, she's not as smart as Shikamaru, but she's probably the 3rd smartest in their age group (after Shika and Temari). I'm not sure this qualifies her to be a genius, but if she shows us some new stuff, I don't see why not.

She is the genjutsu TYPE, meaning the type that would be good with using genjutsu. I'm not sure, but she probably doesn't know any AS OF YET, although she really hasn't had a chance to shine.

Your chronology is messed up. First Jirobou stayed back and delayed them, got killed by Chouji as everyone went on, and withered away. Then the same with Kidoumaru and Neji. Everyone split up to fight, but I'm going to say that Sakon and Ukon are far stronger than Tayuya. Then we've got Kimimaro who's obviously much stronger than them all.
Sakura's not really smart compared to any of the other ninja. I'd say that there are some more intelligent than her like Neji and Lee (being sarcastic on that second part).
Sakura doesn't know any Genjutsu, she was said to excel in Genjutsu, yet she does none of it AT ALL. The only one we've ever seen her do in a non-filler arc (not sure if she DID in any of them but i haven't seen them all) was the Kai (release) technique against Kabuto's Temple of Nirvana.

oh well. I got the ones in the middle mixed up. Big deal. The point is that Tayuya is the strongest and Jirobo is the weakest.

Sakura IS said to be very smart. I would definitely say she is smarter than Neji. Neji is a genius in skill, not SO much in intelligence, although he is probably right after Sakura.

We don't know that since the timeskip. We probablt havent seen all she can do.

I don't know about her genjutsu, but I really think she's smart smart. Not, like, battle-smart or stuff like that, but just, stuff smart. Like, she has good chakra control, I believe, according to the first arc (hehe). I really don't know how to explain it...but...

I'll compare her to Sasuke.

Back in the academy days, Sasuke was an all-around - he was talented, had skills, and brains.

Sakura wasn't very strong in terms of skills, but she had the biggest brains - bigger than anyone's. She claimed to have memorized all of the ninja rules, which I think would be sort of - maybe just a little - like memorizing the Gettysburg Address. I don't know if Neji was that smart...maybe he was?...but the point is, she was smart.

Plus, Neji is a year older than Sakura, so...he's disqualified! 8D
I thought that they were fought in order for a reason. From weakest to strongest, here is what I thought: Jiroubo, Kidoumaru, Tayuya, Sakon, and then Kimimaro.

I honestly can't remember the details for any of those fights. xD Except the Sasuke vs Naruto one. 8D //biased. I just know that my favorite part of Shikamaru's fight was when Temari saved him. xD

And I did point out that other geniuses have been rescued before, so I don't think we can hold that against Shikamaru. Going by this manga, the most valuable strategy is teamwork. It doesn't make one any less skilled to have been in that situation before, at least not in my opinion. (Kakashi and Sasuke were my previous examples)

Yeah, there are bound to be disagreements on the qualifications of a genius.

That is a good point with Shikamaru and Deidara and their similarity. But I think I wanted Deidara on the list, so yeah. xD lol The absolute destructive power he possessed was enough to convince me. Especially C4, in which the vast majority of ninja (like Jiraiya, Naruto, Minato, Sakura, Tsunade, Orochimaru, ect) would not be able to detect unless they could see the color of chakra in some way (Sharingan is currently the only way we know of).

Shikamaru is a genius and generally intelligent. His advice to Chouji is a good example of his common sense and understanding of people. He's not usually overconfident either, which imo, is a sign of maturity. <3 Shikamaru.

I don't know xD I just wanted to put in my two cents about the list, since I haven't been incredibly active lately.

I'm impressed by Sakura because of the leap in skill over the timeskip. While it's true that Sakura had little to no real skills in Part I, it is also true that she never received any outside/one on one training with an experienced sensei, unlike her teammates.

But once she did, a training that focused on her strengths - intelligence, memorization, analyzing, chakra control - she was able to aid in taking down Sasori. Dunno, to go from nothing to what she is now... well, that's talent.

The genjutsu aspect is something that hasn't been explored, simply mentioned. It's said she's a genjutsu type, so I assume that means she's predisposed to excel in genjutsu. Problem is, no one has stepped up to guide her and Kishimoto hasn't done anyting with it. T.T

I meant we could add him to the GIW list. ^_^

Also, Sakura was able to answer every question on the Chuunin exam, where as Sasuke couldn't answer a single one. xDDDD

I'm willing to bet she's right behind Shikamaru, before Temari and Neji. Though those two are definitely very intelligent. *shrugs* But to be fair, I'll say those three are about on the same level...

As for the Sound group, as it stands, Ukon/Sakon were the strongest. Tayuya was second, Kido...something was third, and Jaru....tubby, was last. Obviously, Kimimaro trumps them all.
