Anywhozit, onto my opinion: I think America's screwed either way. Obama isn't experienced enough to be president and McCain is old and probably crazy. Sure, it's entirely possible that one or the other will be a great president, I'm just saying it isn't very likely.
The system is flawed and it is undemocratic because of the influence that funding puts on a voter. Since these two parties are funded so much, people have to compromise the vote for the candidate they truly like in order for one who has some of their views and might win. That is not democracy. If anything, America is much more republic than democracy (for all the noobs this is not democrat vs repbulican.) I mean, look at me. I support Ron Paul's radical (But actually more conservative than anyone else's) views, but I know he will never win because he lost the Republican primary. Therefore, I have to pick between two candidates if I even want my views supported in the White House. So I have to pick Obama, who is for more socialism, something Ron Paul was completely against.

In a way you are right, but looking back, ALL elections were that way, the only problem is ever since the fall of the soviet union and the end of the cold war not many good leaders have popped up to guide this country and stray away from sissyness.

I myself am a Reaganist republican,(pretty much a bit more government control that the libertarian views) but I found all of the reagan republican candidites big wusses, saying anything to get elected, And like you I was a Ron Paul supporter, only guy who said something OTHER than what his speechwriter could find in Hills dumpster.

I don't think you get it. What I am saying pretty much has the same effect of not having the voters hidden when voting.

The USA's government is defined by most to be a democratic-republic. I said that we are more republic, than democratic. This is because our country has taken more and more power on the people so all we really have is an impact on our leaders, and not so much our laws.

Obama's speech was pretty good; he said some riveting things. It'll be interesting to see how the GOP responds.

Re: The Official 2008 Presidential Election Thread

So what do you guys make of McCain's decision to randomly pick a small time Alaskan Gov. Sarah Palin, someone with very little experince on homeland security, military command experience, ect...? This is a decion made by a guy who scrutinized the Democratic party for nominating a guy for the same reasons, no experiance. On top of McCain is old and has a long history of medical issues and to choose a running mate with so little experience who could potentially become the commander and chief of this nation is very irresponsible on his part. I don't want to say anything offend McCain supporters but this just seems weird on his part because he only met her once before last year and again last month to extend to her the position of VP through a short meeting. What are your takes on this matter?

Look up Ron Paul. The "most honest man in congress." Though he is a US politician.

Re: The Official 2008 Presidential Election Thread

This election is scary !!!

How are the Democrats not ahead by a land slide ?? Have people not had enough of this crap for the last 8 years ??

Our economy is in the trash, people are losing their homes and health care and here we have Mccain and Palin who will continue the war on Iraq which was based on lies and completely demolished out economy and out standing on the world stage. How can people support this man ?? not only that what about the threat of a war with Iran ?? this is ridiculous. Are we leaving in a twilight zone ??

I do not agree with Obama on everything but at least he is sane enough to see what a horrible mistake this war is. thats why ill vote for him this year.

Re: The Official 2008 Presidential Election Thread

I really don't see the difference between Obama's foreign policy and McCains's. They both want to intervene with other nations, which is just as bad as staying in Iraq.

As far as the economy, both of their policies suck.

Re: The Official 2008 Presidential Election Thread

There are cases in which conflict is necessary. Obama is against unnecessary conflict, i.e. Iraq, whereas McCain is not. 100 year war, etc.

Hooray social liberalism. Obama will strengthen those ideals within the country. Freedom cannot prevail unless the citizens are taken care of by the government. Protection is not the only thing government is for.

Iran and Darfur and Obama's Iraqs. Seriously, he has an interventionalist policy, which is highly flawed. We are going to still be putting sanctions and embargos on other nations. It is ludicrous.

Also, while I have no evidence to support this, violence is a never-ending cycle. The more we use it, the more danger we face in the future.
