There are plenty of men who run businesses and are successful, but have crap marriages and family life.

Well, I think Hinata has to become confident without the help of any other person, including Naruto. SHE has to believe in herself - and stuff everyone else <in the nicest possible way>
It has to be her for her - its the only way. She can't depend on having a man in her life to be there for her, to hold her hand, and protect her etc.
What if Naruto dies? Not that he's going too, but Im speaking in general terms, about confidence building.
As a girl its important to not have to need a man to relie on...

and yeah, extraneous circumstances would be helpful - make her act. mmm, similar to my currently in progress fanfic.
