So you're saying that the 4th got beat by Tobi & the fox.
After his last Jutsu, the battle was over. Minato did die, but there was no one else(for the leaf) to fight. Tobi pops up again 14-15 years later. If he was that strong, he could have finshed off the leaf after the fox went down.

I think he meant that madara saw though all the schemes that Minato may had to defeat the fox until he (Minato) had no option but that one, (that hardly is a solution).
Probably Madara couldn't take all the remaining Konoha ninjas by himself... or else he wouldn't use the kuuybi in the first place... I wonder if Madara will be able to summon the tail beasts Aka already captured!

Madara needed the help of outside help to take down the 4th. Something with an unfathomable amount of chakra. If he tried to take down the 4th on his own he'd stand no chance.

I think all he meant was that madara was using his MS to see through the 4ths movements.

I doubt madara actually beat the 4th (physically). The 4th just realise that stoppping the nine tails was more import than defeating the ninja. So he made the ultimate sacrafice.

That is another lack of information we have. No one really knows what is Tobi agenda really is. I mean after the Third died and with not even Tsunade around and Naruto beeing just a brat he could easily have defeated Konoha. Who could have faced him back then?
