Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28
If the liquor mart website would load faster I could tell you whether or not I'll be trying it. Is it blended or single malt? Edit: I see the cheap bottle you were talking about is blended, but there is a single malt as well for significantly more. I'll give the blended a try some time and if I like it, splurge on the single malt some other time.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28
Pretty good question, the bottle in my hand says only "triple destilled", but after some research it seems that it's blended. Never tried any other Dews than the Orginial and that one is pretty good in my opinion.
Also, how doesn't one drink his whiskey neat? Other than cheap stuff like Jim Beam... Edit: The cheap one is pretty smooth. It is nice to drink. But if you like stronger, more "harsh" tastes, that one could be not for you. (It's hard to describe the taste of whiskey in another language, damn) Last edited by Nerox; 01-26-2011 at 03:59 PM. |

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28
I tend not to drink blended malts on the whole... though if you know someone who likes mixing their scotch, it is good to have on hand so you don't waste anything too good. Ballantine's makes a good one that you can pick up for like $25 on this side of the country. It is passable even neat, but again... blended.
If you are fan of other whiskey's, a nice Canadian whiskey is Forty Creek Barrel Select. I don't drink a lot of it, but it is enjoyable in comparison to the standard Canadian Club or Crown Royal. Bit more body. |

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28
I recommend Forty Creek as well, if you can find it anywhere Nerox. Ballentine's is what I usually have on hand for mixing, usually in 2:1 combination with Luxardo Amaretto to make Godfathers.

This. Water spoils the flavor.
Don't recognize any of the brands you guys are mentioning. I use to drink(still cook with) a bourbon whiskey Knob Creek. Aged nine years, and extremely smooth. Still keep a bottle on hand to marinate beef/pork tenderloin. Its delicious. |

I like adding a little Smokehead to my beef, gives it a good smokey flavour.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28
Also quite good, if you get your hands on it. When I am in Munich this weekend, I will look for those Scotchs you posted. I am always open for new suggestions.
