Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

Really? Dunno, maybe that just means that comics aren't worth shit these days. Too bad since I like Dylan Dog etc.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

I'm actually writing my dissertation on this. I believe comics are better now than they've ever been, but they're not getting the distribution or the reception they deserve.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

Makes sense. I always want to read more comics but never come across them or even know what's being released. I really need to chat with one friend who is hardcore into comics and has a goal to collect/read every X-men issue ever produced. Even the ones he thinks suck.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

My brother just recently started getting into comics. I have considered doing the same for a while, but I have the same problem I've heard from everyone else who is interested: Accessibility. It is, or at least seems to be, incredibly difficult to figure out what the fuck is going on with comics these days. It just seems like an incomprehensible mess.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

Yeah - most of the comic books or graphic novels I've read are because they hit a bigger crowd to become accessible. Anyone (best bet Jaxon) have a site or resource for comic book info/new releases etc? I could always use another few things to read at night and a comic book fits the perfect length before I fall to sleep - mainly because I read them on the computer, but still.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

I don't actually frequent any comic book sites, because the majority are based around superhero shit. If you're interested in superhero stuff, comicvine.com is alright.

I don't actually know of a good site that really deals with comics in their entirety. It just seems to me like Comics = Marvel/DC shit. Independent comics have never had a really strong, unified voice behind them. They shouldn't HAVE to be independent, but the big publishers just publish the same shit, and have done for the best part of a century. It's enough to put someone off comics for life.

Not that that stuff doesn't have it's place. It just stops the medium going anywhere, IMO. Comics are one of the best tools for mass communication, and all we get is 2 pages of adolescent dialogue and 28 pages of spandex-clad fight scenes every month.

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

Maybe you should start said site. You can call it "why what you're reading is shit".

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

I've done about 3.5k so far, handed it in for critique last week. Would have got feedback on it today, except I thought my tutorial was at 10:30 instead of 10, and missed it.

I was not a happy Jaxon.

Dear God, all these fucking colorful names....looks like all the FTP became the P. Then again, that may be for the better. Also, wtf is up with the new name of the site and forums??? Have I really been gone that damn long?

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

Something like that. I think the main site got bought by fascists, and the forums got re-named to follow suite.

You should be able to redname, you're in OH right?

Oh, and HEY. It's been ages.

Yea, been in OH for a long while now. What's the purpose of the Red names?

LOL Indeed it has Jax. I miss those days of you, me and BK gaming together. How've you been man?

Re: The Longest Thread Ever v28

We just asked Shino for red names one day. Probably 'cause we're egomaniacs.

I'm fine! I don't think I've talked to you since before college. I'm in my final year now. How're you? Life treating you well?
