Re: Games and all things related

I've played the original Fallout, but not Fallout II. I've spent hours poring over the series lore instead of actually playing the original games, because I'm a faget.

If I can get a copy, I will. But the DA are played because we have them and you can go two player on the XBox which is entertaining with the wife (they are her games, after all).

Re: Games and all things related

I played (a little, admittedly) Baulder's Gate 2: SA a while ago when Shrike recommended it to me, but he also recommended PlaneScape: Torment, which I enjoyed and played more than BA2:SA. I need to play both more, and feel like actually buying them instead of using the torrents I got a while ago.

I'll add Fallout 2 to that list as well, and it's available on Steam.

I would also like to add Uncharted 2, the game was pretty damn amazing getting the Indiana Jones vibe.

I think so, in the sense of if the game has to be that amazing graphically, your character can't have limited control. I think that's what happened with RE.
That's definitely a part of it, but the biggest change in game difficulty, in my opinion, has to be the save system most current games employ, which has replaced the lives system of the "hard" games of old wholesale. Now difficult games are difficult because they require much more precise timing and individual ability, not because you had to start all the way over for messing up a few times.

But regardless of how hard games are today, you can piecemeal save your way through most of them in time if you are dedicated.

I disagree. Lives are no longer in games because it makes no fucking sense to have them anymore. It hasn't ever made sense to have lives in non-arcade games, but it took almost 30 years for everyone to finally realize there are no extra quarters to be made giving Game Overs to players.

Games were always difficult because they required precise timing and individual ability. Beating a level in Megaman requires knowing the exact timing of everything and discovering one of few ways to make it through without dying.

MGS4, Sonic Generations (scoff if you will, but they nailed the perfect Sonic game with this one, it's only flaw in my opinion, not enough stages), War for Cybertron,

That song is actually unlockable and you can replace any stage's music with it.

Makes Greenhill Pretty intense.

Re: Games and all things related

Replace the first zone's music with Sonic Boom. Shit is amazing.

Especially if you go Super Sonic partway through.

Re: Games and all things related

I catch myself humming Super Sonic Racing at work all the time. Possibly the gayest song from the Sonic series but its so catchy.

Oh man, Sonic R. I played the shit out of that game.

The music was so bad it's good, in a 90's Eurobeat kind of way.
