Re: Games and all things related
On a related note, Jun Senoue posted on Crush40's twitter that they're recording new songs, and posted a covered picture of three of the lyrics sheets.
One of them has lyrics that read "I'VE OPENED MY HEART, I'VE LIVED AND LEARNED". Everyone is hyping for Sonic Adventure 3, or hell, at least something similar. |

^Campbell would never foot the bill for a business class flight.
Fallout 2 remains my second favorite game of all time. I still play it today, and have current game going. @recent awesome games- I'll cosign Portal 1 and Mass Effect 1, as all around single player experience. Adding in Starcraft 2 for the multiplayer side. Few games recently have successfully replicated, the heart pounding in my chess feeling that I miss from my early era of online gaming. |

For those interested in this, Planescape : Torment is the game with the best story ever in videogame era. No one who played this game disagreed with me on this. The only game that comes close is, of course, the glorious MGS, but I can't put the games in the same category since, you know, they are totally different. Baldur's Gate (especially II) and Fallout II are a must really. They are jewels in my gaming experience much like older Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Tomb Raider games (only being RPGs). So, in short, BG II, Fallout II and Planescape are, by far, the best RPGs I have ever played. Liked KOTOR, NWN and Mass Effect too, but not as nearly. Planescape for the best story, BG II for the best marriage of both story and action, and Fallout II because, goddamn, such an awesome game. Edit : oh yeah, you can throw yourself into porn industry in Fallout II. How's that for awesomeness?

Re: Games and all things related
For me it's been games like The Witcher 2, Portal series, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Skyrim, Metro 2033 (great game, do recommend it) and so on.
A game that I loved was Darksiders, it just took elements of Zelda and God of War and combined them really well. Had a great story to it and fantastic gameplay, it gets a bit overlooked but still an awesome game. On a similar note, any indie games that have stood out for you guys? Planescape and Fallout 1&2 I've always wanted to try out, I'll get them as soon as I can but I've heard good things about them. I never played the PC BG's but BG: DA 1 & 2 I absolutely loved, being able to build my character and the co-op work that it included. I also love the Dynasty Warriors series just for the fun of hacking and slashing through and entire army, it's not anything ground breaking or too challenging but it's always been great fun for me to play. It's a game that could become so much better if they just broke away from their current formula a bit, but meh. Also,

Re: Games and all things related
I think the thing that most greatly influences my view of modern gaming. Is that fact that I, among others I;m sure, grew up along side the gaming industry. So we have lived the same technological progressions that games have. So despite that the technology of games becoming more sophisticated, so our taste in games has also become more sophisticated. With me, during every new emerging game generation. I say to myself, OK that's it, I;m fine with this level of graphical prowess. No need to spend anymore time, storage space, and system resources, on increasing that aspect. Use any new innovation in system performance and storage capacity to now elevate the game.
So when you look at older games in context, and judge them by the technological limitations of their time. They tend to stand out as examples of how a game can be, the full extent of what it has to offer, with in the framework for which it is limited. Which seems to be the opposite today. Truly a shame for sure. Unless Richard Garriott can get his "Ultimate RPG" off the ground. It seems unlikely that there will ever exist a game that can come even close to simulating my first couple of years of UO. Where everything was new ground, and every aspect of the in-game world was completely player driven. IMO if you missed those formative years of online rpgaming you missed out on something great. And it is increasingly unlikely to ever come again. But, you know.... High hopes and all. Edit: Quote:
Fallout 2- If you decide to play it. Install the restoration project. It adds all the content that was removed from the game before it was released. As well as some cool extras, and many bug fixes. Last edited by Axiom; 01-24-2012 at 05:38 PM. |

Re: Games and all things related
All this talk about old games reminded me of an older one that I played a lot of: Homeworld.
![]() Basically, take your standard strategy game of build a base, build armies go kill other guys (Warcraft, Command&Conquer) except your base is a starcraft holding all of your civilization as you try and trip across the galaxy to find a place to live. Shitty graphics aside, the 3 dimensional space battles were pretty awesome. Really make me want to go find it again to see if it is still any good.

Re: Games and all things related
Props to Axiom for talking about Lord British and UO. I wish I was old enough to have played UO in it's heyday. Shit like British being assassinated by a fire spell and his personal guard summoning daemons to massacre the entire hall full of people is legendary.

Re: Games and all things related
That was good, and the only successful assassination. Before the game was officially release, during the beta-test. There were multiple attempts to kill Lord British, like trying to poison his food during a victory feast and stuff. Which is probably what lead the dev team to have an invincibility option available.

Re: Games and all things related
I'm only twenty. I used to play Mechwarrior 3 online on 56k, which is probably the oldest gaming I ever did online.
I think my memories of the free MSN Gaming Zone (shudder) are the only reason I find paying for Xbox Live acceptable. |

Xbox Live's superiority to PSN is why I find paying for it acceptable.
