Teenage suicide in Russia is endemic. It has the third-highest teenage suicide rate in the world, just behind its neighbours Belarus and Kazakhstan and more than three times that of the United States.

Tragic as it may be, I put this at the same level as the kid that was smothered to death because his friend was pretending to be Gaara and buried him in the sand on my "give a shit" meter.

For the family, a tragic and inexplicable event has occurred.
For the community, a tragedy which will create questions of the ills that are driving teenagers to such acts.
For Russia, another statistic to use in developing a response (or lack thereof) to social issues.
For humanity, strengthening of the genetic pool.

Poor bastard!! Should have read the manga or waited a couple years and he would have known itachi came back after dying in the sasuke fight... then basically soloed dragon sage kabuto and had the greatest death of any other character in the story despite already being dead...

This is what happens when you jump to conclusions about itachi... the guy would not die such a fail death against sasuke....

I do not blame him... If I lived in the dark, dank, dreary P.O.S. that is Russia I think I would live vicariously through an anime character too... and if that character died and I had no one left to live through, having to face the reality that I am a teen in Russia with nothing better to do then to jump off buildings... I understand... Russia sucks ass clusters so it is not exactly a surprise....

While the act itself is saddening and its reasoning demonstrates lack of presence of mind, I'm curious about the statistics of ex-soviet nations leading the suicide rates. Perhaps there's a cultural tangent that makes people more prone to such acts than what should be the standard.
