So...you would much rather cut all funding from Planned Parenthood, make gay marriage illegal, prevent people from getting much needed health insurance at an affordable rate because they have a pre-existing condition (I'm one of those people, btw) or allow insurance companies to increase their rates for people with pre-existing conditions/deny a procedure because of a pre-existing condition, have any woman that happened to become pregnant from a rape carry the reminder of their abuse to full-term and flood the foster care system with even more children, cut all funding to PBS (truly the last remaining educational channel), and cut taxes on only the rich?

Edit: I forgot to mention reinstate "Don't Ask, Don't Tell", and causing hundreds, if not thousands (I'm not sure of the exact number), of openly gay soldiers, who are fighting for your freedom, to be dismissed from their respective branches because they are attracted to their own gender.

The electoral college made sense in the times of a young USA where you could almost write "dragons be here" on the maps, so some people had to represent a region.

Now it's just a fucking joke, considering votes on smaller states can be worth more than 3 votes on bigger states, the winner-takes-it-all system is atrocious and the very fact a president can be elected with only 22% of the popular vote if he plays his/her cards right is, well, utterly stupid.

One of the things the US should do is get rid of such an archaic concept and install direct vote for the president with a alternative vote system.

Hey guys, everyone is allowed their political beliefs. If catilena is upset that Obama won and feels it means the end of her future, she's entitled to that. The simple fact that she exists in the misinformed electorate who felt there was any difference at all between the economic policies of Romney and Obama, besides the fact that Obama wanted to shift tax load onto the rich and Romney just wanted to reorganize it on everyone, means she is simply misinformed.

Honestly, the US is fucked either way unless they work shit out, but neither Obama or Romney were truly a better choice in the economic side of things (although I do kinda agree that the rich can afford to pay more). And the youth have been being fucked for a good 20 years, so wake the fuck up girl. At least you didn't get the the Mormon who is backed by a bunch of old greyhaired douches who believe that if you are raped, your body will shut down and prevent pregnancy, meaning that if it doesn't prevent pregnancy, you actually wanted it, you dirty slut.

I agree. It seems like the candidates, like what seems the majority of the US population, like to pretend that the debt doesn't exist or that future governments will magically poof it out of existence. When the US face a similar situation to what Portugal and Greece are going through (which WILL happen if the US doesn't get its shit together), I can't even begin to imagine the reaction of the populace. If one thinks who pay what taxes is all it takes to patch things up, wait until you pretty much took a degree in Economics by just watching the news showing the government performing the most ludicrous of magic tricks that put Houdini to shame.

I mean, the actual election result was very predictable. Obama was far more popular than Carter or Bush - you have to really fuck up in the eyes of voters to not get re-elected. Romney was never going to win.


As for the economic issues: I very much doubt that a talented leader who could 'fix' the situation will ever be elected. We want charisma and so we get populism. The economy will inevitably recover, and any great power's position on the world stage is precarious and subject to entropy.

I'm excited to see a new state within my lifetime. Sure, we'll have to throw out all the old flags and make new ones, but JOBS JOBS JOBS! I was worried about the election, since a lot of those swing states were way too close for comfort. Of course, California saved the day (fuck yeah, my vote actually counted!), as well as Ohio, Wisconsin, and Iowa (kinda surprised me). A rape apologist lost in Missouri, which is always a good thing.

Still reeling from catilena, though. I mean, yeah, I'm all for different opinions--which is what makes democratic nations so great--but that's awfully delusional.

And of course I have a Facebook feed just filled with militant liberals and conservatives going apeshit. I think the hardest one for me to stomach is a friend saying, "God help us all." On the flip side, one of my uber-liberal friends posted this huge thing about why Obama deserved to win, fuck Republicans, fuck Christians, and the like. I just don't understand these kinds of people.

@catilena- You can be as upset about Obama being re-elected as you want. Fact of the matter is you're stuck with him for these next four years either way.

Unless something happens and Joe Biden becomes President. To which we would probably all be completely screwed. Ha, that guy.

And let's be honest, we would have been fucked either way. Obama will probably continue to increase our deficit, but unless you happen to be rich, you would have been fucked over by all the taxes Romney wanted to add to the middle class, anyways.

But think on the bright side! At least Obama isn't going to try to turn you into a second class citizen for being a woman. And gay rights are cool, too.

I listened to an economist I respect on Canadian Radio and he was saying that with the proposed changes Romney wanted, knowing full well that there is absolutely nothing to guarantee he'd go through with them, might have led to increased taxes on everyone, rich and poor alike, so it made no sense that the 1% were so firmly with Romney. Made me laugh.

In any case, I don't think the USA is fucked, truly. I mean, they can print money for the next 100 years if they want to. It's the partisanship that is going to make dealing with the larger problems hard for Obama. He has a plan, I suppose, but there is too much congress has against him to just work with the man. The best part of the 2nd term is that he won't be up for re-election again and HOPEFULLY, some Republicans will loose up and work with the man.

Also, Obama will keep spending, but at least he tries to use it to improve social security for the middle/lower classes. It ain't Canada, but if the economy struggles for the next 4 (probably) at least you'll have some programs to take care of you.

Hurray for Puerto Rico wanting to become a state, hopefully other overseas territories will follow. However, I don't think the flag will be changed because people at high seats are lazy fucks (being the EU flag a prime example).
