While it in no way justifies the horrible writing of the Child of Destiny shit, Kishi didn't completely shit the bed with this one. Neji chose to give up his life, rather than having that forced on him as his "destiny" as a lower branch member. He's essentially doing as his father did: subverting the destiny of the lower branch by doing as he chose rather than what was asked of him. Neji's development hasn't been shot to hell just because Naruto's went to shit.

Neji died to protect the main family which was his original reason for being. Neji didn't defy destiny he basically embraced it. All this shows us is that destiny can not be changed so why bother fighting it. Also what Neji development? Neji's development as a character ended with the Sasuke retrieval arc. At this point Neji is random shinobi #5.

Even though they make a big deal of how Hizashi's death was the defiance of destiny because he (the branch family) chose to sacrifice himself for his brother (the main family) when Hiashi had no intention of doing so? The exact same way Hinata had no intention of having Neji take the bullet for her?

Neji didn't have any development in Part 2, but that doesn't negate that he has had development. His development was driven by learning that his father chose his fate instead of it being the will of the main house.

Like vs. Kidomaru, he ran out of energy/chakara. They're spinning jutsu while great defensively, rapes theyre energy/chakra/stamina, its almost equal to Chidori for Sasuke in part one of how many times he can pull it off before he was at zero chakra and was supposed to die....(multiple times...just like Kakashi). Too bad that Kishi had it to the point BEFORE Sasuke acquired EMS that he could basically spam almost all versions of Chidori, whilst the Hyuuga go a bit more overall power, but no answer for the energy drain, not allowed to spam.

Additionally shouldn't people from Konoha know how useless they're techs would be vs. Harashirma? Where is the Genius saying 'Do this because Harashirma's jutsu does that?'; Its understandable for non Leaf Village ninja to not have a lot of background, but to not know is a flaw. Dude from the Cloud had background on Ginaku, and Kinaku who were dinosaurs from the past, that was way prior to his generation, and he used his knowledge to seal at least one on his own. But no fucking person on the battlefield seems to have any knowledge of the Wood, priceless.

He and Oro & Co are in that cave reanimating Ridoku, afterward they're gonna have some new, knowledge and power, and prolly know more about the Jyuubi than even Madara, and Obito.

Kishi is sending a mixed message, so I can see both points of view. Death is a destiny that no one can escape (not even Madara), but how you choose to die is still in your control. So, Neji choosing this fate is interesting giving his past.

I don't think Neji's death propels the story in anyway unless the others start to die as well left and right. So, sUNshINe & loLLipoPs Naruto's perspective may change, and he may actually grow into an adult from such experiences. But if Neji's death is the only close up one Naruto is witness to, I don't think it has the impact Kishi was hoping for.

Kishi is guilty of making a lot of side characters so meaningless towards propelling the story along. I think we all agree this happened when Naruto became the child of destiny.

C'mon people, quit saying sakura has no purpose. Sure she's sucked as a character since the very beginning and only got progressively worse with time (har har), but there is 1 purpose she could be useful for...a sacrifice?!

With Obito declaring he wants to 'cripple them with despair', the mind fuckery is already underway. With Naruto being his main adversary, and the grudge he holds against kakashi, he's got to have something special in mind for them. Enter Sakura, the sacrifice. Obito impales her in the chest the same was kakashi did rin. Both Kakashi and Naruto suffer from the loss, and it sets up for Naruto a similar scenario to what Obito went through. This in turn allows Naruto to 'legitimately' (read: I've now walked in your shoes, so I understand where you're coming from) find a different answer or path then what Obito is currently doing, without sounding like a know-it-all brat.



Edit: Oh yeah, and Kishi either really dumbed himself down this chapter or Obito is planning something Madara doesn't know about. I'm referring to the dialogue in which Obito says the only reason madara doesn't nuke the place is because Obito would get killed too. Um, okay, did Kishi suddenly forget Obito can travel to an alternate dimension, derp derp.

Sasuke's with Orochimaru who's taking him to the entity that knows everything so Sasuke can make a better decision on what he should do.

The chapter left me upset, but things have to move on. Honestly, a random ninja (or Hyuuga) could've took Neji's place, but I do agree he hasn't played an important role in Naruto in a good while. Now, with being said will other ninjas like Shino, Rock Lee, etc. be killed off too since they have little to do with the story?

Obito's attached to the Juubi the same way EdoMadara is. He can't use Kamui to dimension shift while that physical connection remains, but if he even temporarily severed it the Juubi would be completely out of both of their control.

I think the convo between Madara and Obito about rinne tensei and obito's subsequent proclamation about being in charge is setting up a divide between the two. Sasuke will show up after the alliance is defeated to help Naruto take on Madara and juubi. Obito will sacrifice himself to bring everyone back to life in the end.
