StarCraft II: PETA Call For Ethical Treatment Of Zergling Alien Killing Machines
http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013...?utm_hp_ref=uk
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals have asked video gamers to remember that pan-galactic alien death monsters "have feelings, too". In a PR stunt timed to match the launch of StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the animal rights group has printed leaflets calling on gamers to spare the lives of the nightmarish Zergling army. In StarCraft lore, the Zerg are an insect-like race beset on conquering the galaxy. But just as they warned last year that capturing Pokemon was actually indicative of a hatred of animals, PETA argue that gamers "should have compassion for all beings—even those who are very different from us". At the midnight release of the game in California, PETA apparently handed out the leaflets and urged gamers to spare their digital lives - or at least rethink how they treat their actual animals and pets. In a blog post, PETA said: "So remember, while Zerglings are not real, there are many equally "strange" and exotic animals we share this planet with who deserve our empathy. Just because crocodiles and snakes look alien to us, that doesn't make it OK to skin them alive for a handbag, shoes, or a belt. And if we had to share our world with the Zerg in reality, I'd like to think that we'd make an effort to understand and respect them rather than sending out the battlecruisers—because the alternative to having empathy for other beings is about as grim as it gets, whether you're a Terran, a Zerg, or a Protoss."

Lolwut? I'm sure they'd hold onto those fluffy feelings of cohabitation with the zerg when a zergling is nomming on their insides or a roach dissolves them in acid.

This is clearly PETA's attempt of being "hip cool and pop & fresh" while delivering the same message.
So of course it'll be awkward and funny for whole other reasons they didn't think of. I just wonder what their defense for Malboros would be... |

Re: StarCraft II: PETA Call For Ethical Treatment Of Zergling Alien Killing Machines
I'm starting a group of my own to counter the brain washing of PETA. We are Destroy, Endanger, Ravage, Pollute (DERP). The goal of DERP is to eliminate the more "useless" species from the earth, leaving only the fittest left. These survivors then have much more territory to live in and prosper than before due to a lack of competition. We do this by the clearing of their natural habitat and dumping of toxic waste of their water supply. If the animals adapt to the new biosphere in 72 hours they pass our test. Otherwise they go extinct. That's the laws of the jungle mother fuckers.
To make it fair we'll do a cross the board sequestering of all animal species. We'll eliminate 90+% from all animal classes. I mean do we really need 900,000 different species of insects in the world? I think we could get by with as few as 5000. And what about birds? Holy shit 10,000 of them. I think 1000 would do just fine. To think there are actually 326 subspecies of hummingbirds if super lulzy. Cut that down to 20 or so and everything would run just as smoothly. As for the larger animals we'll do a poll so everyone has a say so. We'll do one for all the big cats (Lions, panthers, bobcats, cheetahs, Lynx etc..) and keep the top 10 results. We'll repeat the process for other major animal families. Lol. Obvious sarcasm should be obvious. Really why do people actually give any sense of relevance to groups like PETA. I believe our best course of action is to show up in great numbers whenever one of these groups has a rally and let out a collective STFU.

I'm sure creationists would love to be part of DERP, it'd eradicate the problem of "kinds" with the bonus of gun fun!
But it's like the feminism discussion we had earlier: PETA does have a good role on environmental preservation, it's just bad some tenets of it just wander off to inane angles like this Zergling one. |
