Depending the validity of this translation... Isshin says "that". Not a hollow or some hollow. That's what leads to me think Isshin battles an arrancar or one/all of the aforementioned trio.

That's true. It just makes me wonder if Kubo is paying attention to what he is writing, because this angle has some potential, but could easily end up being a cluster fuck like Naruto is now.

The rest of that stuff, I simply disagree on. Everyone has different tastes and I found all of that pretty lame. I'm not a Kenpachi fan. I get the dude's manly and all, but Vegeta types don't work for me. They talk so much shit and get so much hype, but in terms of wins? Meh.

That's all spread out throughout the manga's history. I meant a succession of failure for over 100 consecutive chapters.

I would not be surprised as I have predicted it to be a Arrancar foe that Isshin confronts. From all the info this far and the facts we know about what is about to happen between Masaki and Isshin..I would certainly believe it to be a Hollow/Mock Arrancar that Isshin confronts and Masaki saves him from. Any Shinigami from Aizen's camp being directly involved in the fight I just don't see. As they would not risk being caught by anyone from 13 Gotei and also their research/goals have yet to be met. Isshin left believing his power would be enough. Leaving behind his 2nd and Third seat officers. He will be shocked to learn that this Hollow is more than what meets the eye (mock/upgrade). Masaki saves him...Does he befriend Masaki and tries to hold out before returning to SS? Does he intend to go to SS with Masaki and reveal the tidbits about his confrontation and the odd behavior of the Hollow/Arrancar? Was it taboo or prohibited to have any sort of an alliance back then with a Quincy? I am more curious about what happens once Masaki saves him...

The guy managed to keep his past hidden away from his children all this time even when he battled Grand Fisher, knew when Ichigo was out fighting Hollows, could tell Kon was in his son's body before the thing even spoke.

If he wanted to avoid them, he definitely could've pulled it off. Or they might have left him alone due to orders or out of respect.
