netgear wireless problem

umm guys can you help me with this problem so that it wont happen again in the future?

ok i turn on my computer, log onto my account and then when the wireless icon pops up my computer freezes. i dont know why though. i checked for viruses or spam for like 2 hrs and nothing. im currently on another account i made 2 months ago. >.<

ok it was like this:
i log onto my account, i see everything loaded. right when i see the netgear icon, the computer freezes.

well i found a solution anyways to this: uninstall netgear and firewall from mcafee. mcafee firewalll was having a conflict or soemthing with netgear somehow...and thats what caused my computer to freeze. then i reinstalled netgear and then the freezing problem stopped. im making sure that there is only one firewall present now.

You have a router, having a personal firewall on your computer is next to pointless. Also, look through the guides from netgear on how to secure your wireless, so that only people you know can access it.

but yeah, see I would say try to return that router and get another one?
But is this for a desktop or a laptop?
Since I was kind of thinkiing of restoring my laptop.. And making a thread on what to get to like./. Pimp it.

As in do you need to connect it to your computer or is it just something you install?

Netgear is a really good brand for networking. The problem was mcafee

And as daisuke said having a router which has it's own firewall and have a software firewall as well is pointless (especially mcafee)

but you must know how to use the router's firewall and that's not the easiest thing for someone who doesnt know a lot about networking. Also the router's firewall will block anything it thinks it should, without any warning, thus making conflicts with some programs like p2p

Your choice...
