i don't think he died... Naruto's reaction tells us nothing new... cus Kakashi was low/ out of chakra...here's the reasoning
1. Obito died that way, getting crushed under rock, and he gave Kakashi his sharigan, thus serving to defend Konoha even after death...so Kakashi can't just die and do nothing
2. Kakashi was getting healed by the slug
3. He is talking to his dad for a reason
4. Chakra= physical power molded with spirit right? so, since Kakashi thinks he might die, then his spirit isn't very high, thus less spirit power right? So if his dad tells him it's not his time, or he realizes, then his spirit goes up and since the slug= healing him and he's not exerting energy, then that means when his spirit is up and some strength is back, he'll have chakra, thus not dead

well, kishi wouldnt just kill off the 2nd most popular character in naruto, i mean come on, people say that if naruto died, kakashi is so popular the series would be named after him and everyone would be fine! but i don't think he's dead because he's talking to his father, and what point is there in that if he's just gonna die? and i read in an interview that kishi said that kakashi would have something really big happen to him, and i'm guessing this is it. and, why would slugs be healing a dead guy? plus also, kakashi really hasn't done much in the manga except save naruto's ass a couple billion times, and i think that kakashi is gonna become hokage for sure. Kakashi still has a long ways to go.

Hey, Im fairly New to this Forum, but not new to Naruto at all.
Kakashi is My favorite Character, and there are several reasons that he is not dead.

1. Going back in time Maybe between episodes 100 and 124, somewhere around there When Naruto and Sasuke Where trying to clash the Rasengan and Chidori, Who stopped them? Kakashi. there is only one other person Who we know of who could stop that also and that is Jiraiya. As of now we are led to believe Jiraiya Is dead, but there was never a confirmation on that. We saw that he got his face pzoned, but it was never clarified if he died. (we all know how jiraiya disappears for arcs and then appears lol)

2. Kakashis was the only one who could help Naruto complete the Rasengan or as they say finish the jutsu and make it his own. If Kakashi were to be dead now, Naruto would never be able to fully control the Rasen shuriken.

3. Kakashi wouldnt see his dad, and just die. Its gonna be something like the movie gladiator, where Maximus is poisoned and about to die, sees his family and then pops back into reality. Of course maximus still died since no one knew he was poisoned but Kaakshi isnt so he will live.

4. The Fourth AKA Minato, Sealed the Kyuubi In Narutos stomach correct? In order for the third to Kill orochimaru he had to give his life. that is understandable, a life for a life. (btw the third died from orochimarus sword otherwise since death did not kill oroch the third would have been spared) But To seal kyuubi, and have to give your life does not make sense. I kinda feel the fourth is trapped inside with the kyuubi, and when the seal breaks kakashi will need to be there to help Naruto.

5. I feel that Kakashis talk with his dad will change Kakashi completely, and when kaakshi arises he will be the 6th Hokage, and far stronger than Naruto and sasuke.

6. We still have no idea as to how Kakashi developed his version of the Mangekyo Sharingan, It is only known that you must kill you best friend to obtain the Mangekyo. Kakashi did not kill obito, and obito's sharingan just awakened as he was dying or during that fight. etc.

7. There is no real news on Rin (unless by some chance the few chapters I missed here and there said shes dead) All I know is it was said that she disappeared after obitos death.

I have a few more good points but Im at work, so I need to get some things done. Im here to reply. to any posts Regarding this but give me time to reply.

Oh, Thanks. Well Kakashi is an Elite. No doubt about it especially tht he was a Anbu, Now Special Jounin and put incharge of Naruto and Sasuke.
