Re: Common Misconceptions and Mistakes.

Some minor corrections and explanations:

Quote:
1. r's can also be l's...(ru is said the same as lu)
In Kanto dialect, especially its Tokyo variation, IIRC, all syllables of "ra" line except "ru" are actually pronounced with "l" -- "la", "li", "le" and "lo".

Quote:
2. n and m are also the same.(ん)
Nope. There's just is a rule that "n" before syllables of "ha" line should be pronounced as "m". See "manga" vs. "shimbun".

Quote:
3. silent u for desu, masu, ect.
Unstressed "-u" and "-i" syllables with unvoiced consonants ("su", "ku", "fu", "pu", "ki" and so on) always fall silent.

Quote:
5. add desu n ga to make somrthing more polite.(hoshi desu -> hoshi desu n ga)
It's just "desu ga" -- no "n" in the middle. Adding "ga" to the end of a sentence means uncertainty (like in "something, but...") and is belittling the speaker, so it is considered poilte in Japanese.

Quote:
11. iimasu for people, arimasu for things
That's "imasu".

10. nihon- japan, nihongo-language
nihon-go means japanese language
E-go , means English language
